Emily Carr University of Art + Design – British Columbia, Canada
1. Overview
Emily Carr in Vancouver offers arts and design education. Applicants need to prepare a practice-oriented approach, portfolio, and projects aligned with admission requirements.
2. Programs and Suitable Candidates
The university offers a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and a Master of Design (MDes), with study formats varying by program. Low-residency and full-residency programs differ; you must confirm attendance schedules, learning methods, and application requirements. Do not represent these two degrees as Doctoral programs.
3. Application, Language, and Program Selection
Align your degree, transcripts, and foundational subjects with the chosen field. Prepare your CV, statement of intent, letters of recommendation, and language certificates according to the checklist; research-based programs may require a proposal or a supervisor, while creative programs may require a portfolio. Check the overall score requirements, individual skill minimums, exemption conditions, and deadlines. Minimum scores do not guarantee admission.
4. International Tuition – High
For the MFA full-residency cohort entering in 2026–2027: the total tuition and mandatory fees for the first year are 30,922.80 CAD; the second year is estimated at 20,929.80 CAD; the total program cost is 51,852.60 CAD. This is an MFA example, not an MDes fee quote. Use the "High" category to estimate your first-year budget. Living expenses, art supplies, and incidental costs must be budgeted separately.
5. Budget, Scholarships, and Preparation
Only subtract scholarships or funding confirmed by the university from your budget. Separate tuition, mandatory fees, insurance, housing, food, books, and transportation. The tuition category is a preliminary comparison filter based on the examples in this article and does not replace official fee quotes; do not calculate total degree costs based on per-course or per-semester fees without knowing the total number of terms. A 0 CAD price on KeyApply indicates a requirement for consultation, not free tuition.
