Free support for new settlers in Ontario
KeyApply and a team of volunteers accompany newcomers to Ontario.
KeyApply connects a team of volunteers to support newcomers to Ontario with permanent resident (PR) status in settling down. Support depends on the time, location, and availability of each individual volunteer.
Tasks for which support may be provided
- Airport pickup and guidance on public transportation.
- Guidance on applying for a SIN, OHIP, and updating the address to receive a PR card.
- Guidance on enrolling children in school and learning about childcare services.
- Guidance on finding rental housing, understanding lease agreements, and neighborhood utilities.
- Guidance on purchasing a SIM card, opening a bank account, and setting up residential utilities.
- Introduction to finding a family doctor, clinics, and pharmacies.
- Introduction to employment support centers, English classes, libraries, and community services.
- Guidance on how to exchange a driver's license and register for the Ontario driver's license test.
Costs and Conditions
Free volunteer support ($0 CAD). Applicants pay for any third-party costs themselves, if applicable. The program only operates in Ontario and is for new settlers with PR status. Registration does not guarantee an immediate volunteer match or that every request will be met.
