Correct immigration document information

Amend immigration document information is for those who need to verify and request IRCC to correct information recorded incorrectly on issued documents. KeyApply assists with identifying procedures, cross-referencing evidence, and preparing applications.

Eligible cases

IRCC has a procedure to correct errors made by officers on a Record of Landing, Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR), protected person documents, or valid temporary resident documents. Certain name or gender change requests are also considered under specific conditions.

Points to check

• Information to be corrected must be supported by evidence cross-referenced with the original file.
• Temporary resident documents must be valid.
• COPR records historical information; life changes after becoming a permanent resident are not automatically updated on the COPR.
• Changing employers or jobs requires appropriate permit procedures rather than an amendment request.

Process and documents

1. Submit copies of documents with errors and the correct information for assessment.
2. Prepare passport, evidence, and current checklist.
3. Complete IMM 1436 according to Guide 5218; include relevant forms if necessary.
4. Sign and send the application to the specified IRCC address; keep proof of submission.

Fees and urgent processing

There is no fee for correcting IRCC administrative errors; name/gender change requests not due to administrative errors usually cost 30 CAD per document, unless exempt. Urgent processing must meet criteria and be supported by evidence.
