Changing from Visitor Status to Study Permit in Canada

Only certain individuals are eligible to apply for a study permit from within Canada. Does any of the following situations describe you, or the person you are applying for? (required)

You are in Canada and one of the following is true for you:

• You are a citizen of Ukraine or a family member of a citizen of Ukraine.
• You have a valid study or work permit.
• Your spouse, legal partner, or parent has a valid study or work permit.
• You are a minor attending elementary or secondary school.
• Are you an exchange student or a visiting student?
• You have completed a required short-term course or program of study to be accepted at a DLI.
• You or your spouse, legal partner, or dependent child have a temporary residence permit (TRP) valid for six months or longer.
• You are being sponsored to immigrate and you have applied for permanent residency (if you are eligible).
• You or your spouse, legal partner, or dependent child is subject to an unenforceable deportation order.
• You are the spouse, legal partner, or dependent child of:
  • an athlete on a team based in Canada
  • a member of the media
  • a member of the church
  • military personnel currently serving in Canada or
  • a recognized foreign representative
• You are a refugee in Canada or a family member of a refugee in Canada.
