Applewood Heights offers a semestered program for all grades.

Why Applewood Heights Secondary School

  • Student supports: Applewood Heights provides superior English as a Second Language (ESL) programs led by teachers with extensive experience working with students in ESL. There are professional settlement workers to support students as they adjust to life in Canada, inside and outside of school. The orientation and peer-mentoring programs provide opportunities for students to socialize with Canadian students and make new friends from diverse cultures and backgrounds, and experienced guidance counsellors support students as they apply for colleges and/or universities in North America.
  • Course variety: Applewood Heights offers a French Immersion program, the Pre-Advanced Placement program for grades 9, 10 and 11 as well as the Advanced Placement (AP) program for grade 12 students. The AP program offers a great opportunity for students interested in science, math, history, or French to qualify for university credits. It also offers a Specialist High Skills Major in Sports, where students in Grades 11 and 12 are engaged in a program that provides focused courses on sports and leadership combined with additional sector certifications and experiences that are linked to post-secondary plans.
  • Extracurricular activities: School clubs and other extracurricular activities are an integral part of many students’ high school experience at Applewood Heights. They provide a chance for students to develop leadership and teamwork skills while pursuing an interest that may lead to a career or lifelong hobby. As well, extracurricular activities are considered an asset on post-secondary school applications by showing additional positive attributes of an applicant that might not be reflected in grades alone. Some of the clubs available include Art, Bike, Christian Fellowship, Environment, Fashion, Knitting, Robotics, and Spanish, to name just a few. Sports teams include Volleyball, Cross Country Running, Basketball, Field Hockey, Rugby, Ice Hockey, Swim, Badminton, Ball Hockey, Soccer, Cricket, Slow Pitch, and Track & Field.
