Update to the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) in 2025
The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has just released the latest information regarding the Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) for 2025. According to the report, IRCC expects to accept a maximum of 10,000 sponsorship applications this year.

Because there are still many applications expressing interest in sponsorship from 2020 , IRCC will continue to randomly select from this group to send invitations to apply, instead of accepting new applications.
Processing time
- 24 months for applications from outside the province of Quebec.
- 48 months for applications from Quebec (due to the province's lower acceptance quota).
Alternative option: Super Visa
For those who cannot apply under the PGP, the Super Visa remains an option for parents and grandparents to come to Canada for a longer period. The Super Visa allows:
- You can stay in Canada for a maximum of 5 years each time you enter the country .
- Multiple entries over a period of up to 10 years .
- Health insurance requirements have been adjusted to make it more accessible.
Immigration strategy and quota adjustment
IRCC is adjusting the number of new applications under the 2025–2027 Immigration Levels Plan to balance the number of applications processed with the annual immigration quota. Therefore, changes may continue in the coming years.
Details regarding the timeframe for sending out invitations to apply will be announced by IRCC in the near future.
