In some cases, when you apply for a tourist visa to Canada, you will need to provide an invitation letter from someone in Canada.

An invitation letter does not guarantee that you will be granted a visa. Visa officers evaluate many other factors to determine whether you meet the requirements of Canadian law.

Information for the person writing the invitation.

Writing an invitation letter doesn't mean you're legally liable to your guest when they arrive in Canada. You should still write the letter in good faith. You must tell the truth and have a plan to keep the promises made in the letter.

Send your letter (which may need to be notarized, if the visa office requires it or you wish to add notarization) to the person you are inviting to Canada. The visa applicant will then send this letter to the Canadian embassy or consulate outside of Canada when they apply for a temporary resident visa.
