Ontario Prioritizes High-Demand Occupations to Address Federal Student Limits
According to information from the Government of Canada , on November 15, 2024, the Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced new regulations aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the International Student Program and protecting students from abuse within the system.
Previously, in January 2024, IRCC announced the implementation of limits on the number of study permits issued to international students in 2024 and 2025, in order to control the rapid increase in the number of international students in Canada.
To address this limitation, the province of Ontario has implemented a strategy that prioritizes training programs related to high-demand occupations, aiming to meet the needs of the labor market and ensure that post-secondary educational institutions continue to contribute to providing a skilled workforce for the province.
