The Alberta Express Entry Stream under the AAIP allows Alberta to select candidates from the federal Express Entry system based on economic needs, industries, and priority occupations.

Basic Eligibility

  • Active Express Entry profile, meeting the requirements of at least one program: CEC, FSWP, or FSTP.
  • Minimum CRS of 300; this is a minimum threshold and does not guarantee an invitation.
  • Primary occupation matches a pathway or priority selection; intent and ability to live and work permanently in Alberta.
  • If invited based on an Alberta job offer, both the candidate and employer must meet provincial requirements.
  • Meet additional criteria for the draw; not in an ineligible occupation, no active AAIP nomination, or barred from reapplying due to misrepresentation.

Pathways and Selection Sectors

Dedicated Health Care: Valid job offer in an approved healthcare occupation, proof of eligibility to practice in Alberta, and meeting Express Entry requirements. The health pathway includes a separate Non-Express Entry option for those who do not qualify for Express Entry.

Accelerated Tech: Working full-time in Alberta or hold a valid job offer in an approved technology NOC from an employer whose primary operations are in an approved technology NAICS code. The primary Express Entry occupation must match the work/job offer. Those currently working in Alberta must have valid immigration status as required. You must complete the Accelerated Tech web form according to official instructions. Does not apply to part-time, seasonal, contractors, temporary agency workers, or those working from outside Alberta.

Law Enforcement: Internationally recruited candidates identified by the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police (AACP) to the AAIP; must have a verifiable job offer from a police employer who is an AACP member. Applicable NOCs include 40040, 41310, 42100, but official job titles and actual duties must fall under approved policing roles. The primary Express Entry occupation must match the work/job offer.

Priority sectors: Eligible occupations in construction, agriculture, and aviation may be selected; criteria for each draw are subject to change.

Family Connection pathway no longer separately selectable

Since 17/03/2025, the AAIP no longer issues invitations under the Family Connection and Occupation in Demand pathway. Having eligible relatives in Alberta may still be factored into WEOI points; it should not be promoted as an independently open pathway.

Worker EOI, Invitations, and Government Fees

Candidates must create a Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI), be selected, and receive an invitation before applying for the AAIP. The WEOI fee is 135 CAD as of 07/04/2026; the worker stream application fee is 1,500 CAD. These are government fees, separate from service fees and IRCC fees. A WEOI is valid for one year; updating information does not extend this validity. You must update salary and hours information when applicable. Meeting eligibility or entering the pool does not guarantee an invitation or nomination.

The AAIP issues provincial nominations; the IRCC makes final decisions on permanent residency. A nomination does not automatically grant PR or a work permit.

It is recommended to keep your Express Entry profile valid and updated. For AAIP applications submitted from 30/09/2024, expired or expiring Express Entry profiles can be updated via the portal, provided the new profile still meets requirements.

AAIP 2026 Updates

All AAIP worker streams now use the Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) system before candidates are invited to apply. As of 07/04/2026, the WEOI submission fee is 135 CAD. A WEOI is valid for 12 months. Having a WEOI does not guarantee an invitation; the AAIP selects candidates based on scores, labor market needs, provincial priorities, remaining nomination allocations, and application volume.

From 25/02/2026, the WEOI includes additional fields for salary and hours worked for candidates with an Alberta job offer; these factors may be used in future draws.
