1. PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Alberta Graduate Entrepreneurship Program (FGES) is a stream of the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program (AAIP) for candidates educated outside Canada who wish to establish and operate innovative businesses directly in Alberta, with the opportunity to apply for permanent residency.

The program is implemented with the participation of Designated Units, whose task is to evaluate candidates, assess the feasibility of business projects, and issue Letters of Recommendation.

2. MAIN CONDITIONS

  • Foreign language: Must meet at least the Canadian Language Standard (CLB). Level 5 for English or French;
  • Education: Completion of a post-secondary degree (Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate) awarded outside Canada within the last ten (10) years, accompanied by a valid Qualification Accreditation Certificate (ECA);
  • Business sectors: Businesses are eligible to operate in eight (08) target sectors identified by the province of Alberta.
  • Investment level:
    • 100,000 CAD in Edmonton or Calgary;
    • 50,000 CAD in other areas of Alberta
  • Application structure: One candidate per project.
  • Role: The candidate must be directly responsible for establishing, managing, and operating the business on a daily basis.

3. PROGRAM PROCESS

The FGES process generally consists of two stages:

  1. Work Permit Phase: after the Business Plan and Business Performance Agreement (BPA) are approved.
  2. Permanent Resident Nomination Phase: after approximately 12–18 months of active business implementation and operation, and achievement of approved milestones.

Applicants define their own performance indicators in the Business Plan, and these indicators must be approved by the competent authority of the province of Alberta.
