[CANADA IMMIGRATION NEWS] – Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program 2025: IRCC Continues Withdrawing Applications Starting from 2020

On July 16, 2025, the Canadian Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) officially announced that the 2025 application period for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) will not open new applications, but will continue to randomly draw from the list of those who submitted "Interest to Sponsor" applications in 2020.

• According to the plan, IRCC will begin sending up to 10,000 invitations to apply to those on the 2020 waiting list who have not yet received an invitation.

📅 The invitation process will begin on July 28, 2025 and will last for approximately two weeks.

🔎 Important note:

• Those who submitted a petition for sponsorship in 2020 should check their registered email, including their spam and junk mail folders.
• If you receive an invitation, you will be able to submit your application electronically through the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Portal.

📌 IRCC will not be opening new applications in 2025, so if you haven't applied since 2020, you will not be invited this time.

Super Visa – A special family visit visa for parents and grandparents:

• The term is up to 10 years.
• You can stay in Canada for 5 years each time you enter, and this can be extended for an additional 2 years.

Canada Start-Up Visa, if your parents:

• Possess English or French language skills equivalent to CLB 5.
• Meets the language requirements for English or French.

The Start-Up Visa program is a fast-track and long-term immigration option, strongly supported by the Canadian government.
This is a very worthwhile option to consider if you want to bring your parents to Canada without having to wait for many years like with the PGP.
