Highlights of programs at Cambrian

Cambrian College, the largest public college in Northern Ontario, offers over 80 programs for international students, including a prominent co-op program. Diploma Program (2 years) / Advanced Diploma Program (3 years)

  1. Business Department:
  • Business - Accounting:

The 2-3 year program provides comprehensive knowledge in business, marketing, human resources, finance, and accounting. The 3-year program includes a 6-7 week internship in accounting or business administration, giving students the opportunity to work full-time after graduation.

  • Media Communication:

In the era of Industry 5.0, social media and the internet are indispensable tools for marketing and PR in any company. Over two years, you will learn about photography, website design, writing, press releases, filmmaking, and more. This field of study leads not only to careers in media such as journalism, marketing, and entertainment, but also to business and management, education, politics, international relations, and law.

  1. IT Department:
  • Computer System Technician/Technology

The program is accredited by Cisco Systems Networking Academy and Microsoft IT Academy, collaborating with two leading global corporations to provide job opportunities for students upon graduation. The program lasts 2-3 years, including 400-700 hours of hands-on lab work on campus and 6 weeks of internship at partner companies.

  • Computer Programming - IoT:

  1. Department of Community Services:
  • Early childhood education:

One of the top-demand professions in Canada and the city of Sudbury is early childhood education. The two-year program includes four placements at four different daycare centers arranged by the school, giving students the opportunity to work after completing their internships.

  1. Department of Design and Arts:
  • Game design:

In Canada, the gaming industry is growing rapidly and attracting a large workforce in provinces such as Ontario, BC, and Quebec. The average salary for a Game Programmer in Toronto is approximately $73,000 per year (according to Jobbank). https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/wagereport/occupation/22538

At Cambrian College, the Game Design program is a two-year course that provides knowledge in game programming, software development, and game graphics.

  • Graphic Design / Animation: A 3-year program with a 5-week internship in the 5th semester, and each year students attend the DesignThinker field trip and workshop in Toronto. During their studies, students have access to on-campus labs and studios equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
  1. Faculty of Engineering and Environment:

Sudbury is considered the mining capital of the world; therefore, industries related to mining, engineering, and the environment still employ a large workforce and provide many jobs for the local population (16,000 mining-related jobs annually). According to 2016 statistics from the Sudbury Department of Education, the most popular field of study among students is Engineering (over 19,000 students).

  • Chemical Engineering: taught over 7 semesters (3 years), with 2 co-op semesters. This is the only program in the province that focuses on wastewater treatment processes and clean water supply. The technologies taught in the program are accredited by the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists.
  • Civil Engineering: a 2-3 year program accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada. Field trips to local construction companies involve completing projects and gaining hands-on experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and CAD software. Graduates may be eligible to become members of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians/Technologists (OACETT) and the Canadian Technical Employment Network (CTEN).
  • Electrical/Mechatronics/Mechanical Engineering: 2-3 year program with modern labs and studios on campus. Paid internships are available. The program is accredited by the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists. Students practice using software such as AutoCAD, PLCs, etc. Upon completion of the program at Cambrian, you can take the Certificate of Qualification exam.
  • Mining Engineering : Mining remains one of the most labor-intensive industries in Sudbury. Two leading multinational mining corporations, Vale and Xstrata, are located in Sudbury. Salaries in the mining industry are 67% higher than the average industrial wage in Ontario. The Mining Engineering Technology program at the school is the only one accepted for teaching in the province of Ontario. The program will provide students with the necessary skills and practical experience to become mining engineers.
  1. Health and Medical Sciences : The world is still facing pandemics and serious illnesses, so health is everyone's top priority. Canada is increasingly seeking skilled workers and expanding immigration opportunities in this field. Sudbury's leading industry is healthcare, offering many opportunities for graduates.
  • Practical Nursing (2 years) / Personal Support Worker (1 year) : The Practical Nursing program is Category I, with high output KPIs, and almost 100% of graduates find employment. However, places are limited for international students, so you should apply early or choose Personal Support Worker (1 year) / Pre-Health to study first.
  • OTPA (Physical Therapist Support Program) : A two-year program comprising three school-arranged internships. Physician assistants are indispensable members of the healthcare team in many hospitals and clinical practices. Physical therapists are specialists who plan and implement specialized rehabilitation programs to improve mobility and reduce patient pain.
  • Massage Therapy : Massage therapy is consistently among the medical professions with high demand. According to statistics from jobbank.gc.ca, this field has great prospects for the next three years, with an average income of $25 to $50 per hour. The program lasts three years and includes four lab internships at the school's designated healthcare facilities and three internships at designated healthcare settings. Upon graduation, all students can take the CMTO registration exam before becoming Registered Massage Therapist (RMT).

  1. Department of skilled tradesmen and technicians:
  • Automotive Engineering: A two-year program where students intern in workshops equipped with state-of-the-art, industry-standard equipment, developing practical skills and problem-solving abilities in manufacturing parts for products and machinery using various automated machining tools. These vocational programs offer numerous job and immigration opportunities.

Postgraduate (1-year) Programs:

Students can combine two 1+1 programs to obtain a PSWP (Personal Postwork Permit) for up to 3 years. Cambrian offers over 14 postgraduate programs, with the following being some of the most popular:

  • Project Management/ Organization Management/ HR Management
  • Supply Chain
  • Public Relation

The one-year program (3 or 2 semesters) includes an internship, providing students with practical experience and knowledge to supplement their degree and increase their chances of securing employment at major Canadian corporations.
