KEYAPPLY - IMMIGRATION INVESTMENT

Canada welcomes those who wish to escape the war in Ukraine.

The latest information from the Canadian Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) indicates that Canada remains steadfast in its support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Ukrainian immigrants have contributed to building Canada, and Canada stands alongside the courageous Ukrainian people in upholding the values that both countries share.

As part of the Canadian government's response to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is introducing new immigration streams for Ukrainians wishing to come to Canada temporarily or permanently.

For Ukrainians wishing to travel to Canada temporarily, Canada will issue Canada-Ukraine Emergency Travel Authorizations (Ukraines), for individuals fleeing Ukraine. There will be no limit on the number of Ukrainians who can apply. This is the fastest, safest, and most efficient way for Ukrainians to travel to Canada and eliminates many of the usual visa requirements. All Ukrainian citizens will be able to apply through this new route, and, during background checks and security screenings, their stay in Canada may be extended for at least two years. Canada expects to have an extended processing timeframe for applications within two weeks, and in the meantime, Canada continues to encourage Ukrainians to apply through all programs, with priority given to their applications.

While the world has witnessed the unwavering dedication of the Ukrainian people to their country, Canada recognizes that some immediate and extended family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents may wish to begin a new life in Canada. For these families, IRCC will expedite the implementation of a special family reunification sponsorship pathway for permanent residency. Canada will develop the details of this program in the coming weeks, including working with the Ukrainian Parliament of Canada.

All Ukrainians coming to Canada as part of these measures will be eligible to apply for open work permits, making it easier and faster for employers to hire Ukrainian citizens. As previously announced, IRCC will issue open work permits to Ukrainian visitors, workers, and students currently in Canada who cannot safely return home.

Further information on these new temporary and permanent residency programs, including processing times, will be available in the coming days and weeks. Over the past few weeks, IRCC has worked closely with other government agencies, the Ukrainian Parliament of Canada, and other agencies within the Ukrainian Canadian community to ensure that all measures meet the needs of the Ukrainian people and their communities. IRCC will continue to engage with provinces and territories, and other partners, on how they can contribute to and support this effort.
