Canada HomeShare: Live with seniors and get reduced rent.
Canada HomeShare is a program run by the National Initiative for Aged Care (NICE). Canada HomeShare is suitable for seniors who want to share a spare room in their home with college and university students looking for affordable housing.
In return, students receive a rent reduction of $400-600 per month, and up to 7 hours of companionship and/or assistance with light household chores, such as preparing and sharing meals, cleaning, carrying groceries, or walking pets.
Canada HomeShare is supported by social workers. These social workers will match seniors and students based on a variety of characteristics and interests, ensuring all participants receive screening and readiness throughout the entire process, from initial contact to after moving in.
Students and seniors interested in participating in the program should find more information on the following website: https://www.canadahomeshare.com
