Sponsoring parents/grandparents 2020-2021: Invitation letters have begun being sent.
On the morning of January 5, 2021, the Canadian Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) announced that it had issued the first round of invitations to apply for sponsorship.
The total number of invitations to be sent out will exceed 10,000. IRCC expects to accept 10,000 complete applications.
Those who submitted interest to sponsors will be fortunate enough to receive an invitation in the next few days.
If you (the sponsor) have received an invitation to apply, you have 60 days from the date of the invitation to submit a complete sponsorship application. The deadline for submission is also stated in the invitation. If a document cannot be provided in time due to Covid-19, you can provide an explanation and proof of application for that document (within the given timeframe) along with your application.
You will only receive an invitation once you are invited. IRCC announces invitation sending schedules on its website and Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/CitCanada and Twitter account https://twitter.com/citimmcanada
Once all invitations have been sent out, you can check if you've been invited using a tool at https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/family-sponsorship/sponsor-parents-grandparents/selected.htm l
If you are fortunate enough to receive an offer, please submit it along with your 2018 and 2019 CRA's Notice of Assessment (NoA), and you can add your 2020 NoA later.
If you haven't been fortunate enough to receive an invitation, the super visa specifically for parents/grandparents of Canadian citizens/permanent residents can help your parents/grandparents stay in Canada for a longer period (up to 2 years per entry and 1 year per stay extension).
