Regarding the SDS program
The Student Direct Stream (SDS) is a Canadian government initiative designed to streamline the student visa application process for international students from certain countries. This program focuses on providing a faster processing time for eligible applicants, including those with sufficient financial resources to cover tuition and living expenses in Canada, along with adequate English or French language proficiency. Thanks to SDS, visa processing is expedited, making it easier for international students to access educational opportunities in Canada.
Using the SDS program, some international students can obtain their study permits more quickly. The majority of SDS applications are processed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) within approximately 20 business days, provided all requirements are met.
Only applications submitted online will be considered under the SDS program. Paper applications will be processed through the standard study permit process and subject to corresponding processing times.
Although processing through the SDS may be expedited, international applicants must still comply with all other eligibility and entry requirements under the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulation (IRPR).
