You can apply for a PEI Express Entry nomination for Permanent Residency through the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). Your nomination through the PEI PNP will increase your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply from the Federal Government.

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for the PEI Express Entry nomination, you must:

  • Meet the requirements of at least one of the Federal Economic Migration programs:
    • Federal Skilled Worker Program;
    • Federal Professional Trade Program; or
    • Canadian Experience Class
  • Create a Federal Express Entry profile and be placed in the candidate pool. You can create a profile at any time via IRCC (external link).

Prince Edward Island prioritizes invitations granted through Express Entry to applicants who are working and living in the province with a valid PEI employer.

NOTE: You are required to demonstrate 9 months of continuous full-time work experience with the PEI employer supporting your migration AND have at least 4 months remaining on your work permit at the time of submitting your Expression of Interest IF :

  • You hold a PGWP and graduated from an institution outside of PEI;
  • You have an open work permit for the bride due to a study permit from a classmate from an institution outside PEI;

What do I need to do to apply?

If you meet the eligibility criteria listed above, you must first read the Workforce Application Guide, then you or your representative must create a profile in the Prince Edward Island Interest Expression System . To create a profile, you will be asked to provide a valid email address and identification information including your passport details. Once your account has been verified, you will be able to proceed with completing your profile. Applicants may only have one active profile at a time.

Your profile will remain active for six months. You must ensure the information provided in your profile is accurate and verifiable. If your situation changes before you are invited to apply, you may update your profile. If your situation changes after you are invited to apply, you must contact the Office with the updated information; this may affect the final decision on your profile. You can find more information about the EOI points grid in the Workforce Application Guide.

If you are invited to apply, you will receive an email notification including your application number and instructions to submit your application. If you are invited to apply, you must complete the application forms. Your employer must also complete the employer forms.

An Expression of Interest is not an application, but rather an expression of your interest in being considered for inclusion in the PEI Workforce Category. The Office reserves the right to limit the number of applications or exclude from Interest withdrawals.

Who is ineligible to apply?

If you are currently in Canada, you must be here legally. This means that if you are in Canada on a student visa and you are not studying, you are not eligible to apply.

Do I have to pay a fee?

There is no fee to create an Expression of Interest profile. If you are selected to apply for nomination by PEI, there is a non-refundable fee of CAD 300. If you meet the requirements of one of the Workforce streams, you may submit a PEI Expression of Interest and, if invited, apply for Nomination to the PEI Immigration Office. Once your application is processed and approved, you will receive a Work Permit Support Letter along with your Nomination. A Letter of Support for a Work Permit allows you to apply for a work permit from the Federal Government without an LMIA. Letters of support are issued at the discretion of the PEI Immigration Office and are limited to the employer who supported your nomination. Please note that IRCC and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) are responsible for issuing work permits.

If you have applied for permanent residency, please note that you may be eligible for a Bridged Open Work Permit (BOWP) which allows you to continue working while you await the outcome of your permanent residency application. For more information on BOWPs, please visit the IRCC website. Please note that the issuance of a BOWP is at the discretion of IRCC.
