The New Brunswick Business Immigration Stream has replaced the Entrepreneurial Stream, which is now closed and no longer accepting new applications.
If you submitted your application before the program closed, please visit the Entrepreneurial Stream page.

The New Brunswick Business Immigration Program is an economic immigration pathway for experienced entrepreneurs who are ready to establish, operate, and directly manage a business while living and settling permanently in the province of New Brunswick.

An entrepreneur must start a new business or acquire an existing one and be directly involved in managing its day-to-day operations. After operating the business for six months and meeting the requirements of the business performance agreement, the entrepreneur may be nominated by the province of New Brunswick to apply for Canadian permanent residency.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants under this category must meet the minimum eligibility requirements to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

To apply, you must demonstrate that you meet ALL of the following conditions:

  • Ages 19 to 59
  • Minimum foreign language proficiency level: CLB 4
  • The minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma.
  • Minimum net worth:
    • 500,000 CAD (or 300,000 CAD for candidates in the agricultural sector)
  • Experience in owning or managing a business at a senior level:
    • Business ownership: holding at least 51% of the shares in a private company, directly involved in day-to-day operations as a key decision-maker, and supervising at least two employees for at least two years within the last five years; or
    • Senior management in a for-profit company, involved in day-to-day operations in a key decision-making role, and supervising at least two employees for at least two years within the last five years.
  • A business plan with a minimum eligible investment of CAD 150,000 and the creation of at least one full-time job is required.
  • Achieve a minimum score of 65 points on the program's evaluation scale.

Creating an EOI profile does not guarantee you will receive an official Invitation to Apply.

The decision is based on factors such as the economic and labor market conditions in New Brunswick, the number of applications currently available, the annual nomination quota allocated by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and other factors determined by the New Brunswick Provincial Government (GNB).

Priority will be given to candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • You must have visited the province of New Brunswick on at least 5 working days in the past 12 months. (See the province's guidelines for details on exploratory visits).
  • You or your spouse have a post-secondary degree or certificate from NB, requiring at least one year of full-time study.
  • You or your spouse have worked at least 30 hours per week for six consecutive months in a highly skilled occupation in NB within the last two years.
  • You or your spouse have a family member (excluding cousins) over 18 years old who is a permanent resident or citizen of Canada and has been living in NB for at least 12 months.
  • You are an agricultural entrepreneur and have received a letter of support from the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries.

Your Expression of Interest (EOI) is valid for one year from the date it is received. If after that time you are not selected and still wish to immigrate under this program, you can resubmit a new EOI.
