FAQ
Are the fees in CAD or USD? Does the fee include all embassy fees?
Fees will be charged in CAD and do not include taxes and shipping. Taxes will depend on the customer's location and will be automatically calculated at checkout. Shipping will also be calculated based on the customer's location. There are no additional charges.
Can I use this invoice for tax purposes?
All KeyApply service fees are tax deductible.
Can I keep my old passport?
You can keep your old passport, but once the new passport is issued, the old passport will no longer be valid. If you want to continue using the visa in your old passport, you can still use both passports in parallel. In addition, if you want, you can request the procedure to add the old passport number to the new passport.
If I do not cut the corners or punch holes in my old passport, can I still apply for a new passport?
In order to issue a new passport, the old passport must be invalidated by cutting off the corners or punching holes. Even if you send your old passport to the Embassy to renew it, the old passport will be punched before it is returned to you.
Is there a change in passport number when re-issuing?
When you reissue a passport, the passport number will change and be replaced by a new number. The old passport and its old passport number will no longer be valid. If your old passport still has valid visas from other countries, you can still use both passports until the visas expire.
Can I get a Vietnamese passport with an electronic chip?
Vietnamese passports issued abroad do not have electronic chips. Vietnamese passports only have chips when issued in Vietnam.
When renewing a new passport because the old passport has expired, are previous legal documents using the old passport number still valid?
Once you receive your new passport, the passport number on your legal documents will also need to be updated to reflect your new passport number. Make sure you notify the relevant authorities and organizations of your passport number change to ensure the validity and accuracy of your legal documents.
How long is a passport valid for?
The validity of a passport is 10 years, however, passports with children's photos and separate passports for children under 14 years old are only valid for 05 years from the date of issue or from the date the child's photo is attached.
Does the passport have an identity card or citizen identification number?
Passports issued at the Vietnamese Embassy in Canada do not include an identity card or citizen identification number, but this does not affect the validity of the passport.
My Canadian residency documents have expired, can I apply for a Vietnamese passport?
Yes, you can still apply for a Vietnamese passport even if your Canadian residency documents expire.
Do I need to sign my passport?
The passport holder must sign the passport and is responsible for keeping his/her passport. For passports of children under 14 years old, the signature section can be left blank, parents cannot sign on behalf of the child.
I changed my name in Canada, will the new name be recorded in my Vietnamese passport?
The name on a Vietnamese passport can only be written according to the Vietnamese birth certificate or old Vietnamese passport. The Canadian name change certificate cannot change the name on a Vietnamese passport. If you want to show your new name on your Vietnamese passport, you can order an additional annotation service. Your new name will be written in the annotation.
How long does it take to get results?
The time it takes to receive your results depends on your case. If your passport is still valid, it usually takes about 2 weeks to receive your results (not including shipping time if you do not request a personal pickup). If you need it more quickly, there is an urgent service within 24-48 hours.
However, if the passport is expired, lost or is a first-time passport for an adult, the time to receive the results will be longer. Please contact KeyApply for detailed advice for your case.
If I don't come to pick it up in person, how much will it cost to have the documents sent home?
Upon check-out, the system will automatically calculate the shipping fee back home according to the rates of Canada Post or other shipping companies.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Ask a Question-
My baby is just a few months old. I want to make a birth certificate and a Vietnamese passport for the baby. But I read on the birth certificate that now they only make a birth certificate extract and do not issue a birth certificate if the baby already has a birth certificate in Canada. So is that birth certificate extract the same as the birth certificate? And can I apply for that and the baby's Vietnamese passport at the same time.
Birth affidavits and birth certificates are both legal documents, but they have some differences.
A birth certificate extract is an official copy of the birth information recorded in the birth registry. It contains important information such as the parents' names, date of birth, place of birth, etc., just like a birth certificate, but legally, it is an extract of the information that has been recorded.
If your baby already has a Canadian birth certificate, you will not be issued a new Vietnamese birth certificate, but can only request a birth certificate extract.
Regarding applying for a Vietnamese passport for your child: You can apply for a birth certificate extract and a Vietnamese passport for your child at the same time.

Please advise: My child will turn 14 in October 2023. The passport will expire in January 2024. Should I renew it now or wait until my child turns 14?
Hello. If there is no urgent need for a passport, you can wait until October 2023 when your child turns 14 to renew his passport. Because from 14 years old and up, the passport will be valid for 10 years. Under 14 years old, the passport is only valid for 5 years.
