Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) - Holy Name of Mary Catholic High School
Brampton, Ontario, CA
115 Glenvale Boulevard
Introduce
Holy Name of Mary School reflects the vision of the Felician Sisters. The school was founded on September 7, 1964, with a class of 9th-grade and a class of 10th-grade students. Some students aspiring to become nuns lived on the third floor of the school and were members of these classes.
As the number of students increased, non-Church teachers were hired. In September 1971, Holy Name of Mary joined the Dufferin-Peel RCSS Catholic School Board and provided programs for grades 9 and 10. In 1983, the Sisters relinquished their first and second-floor residences to facilitate the school's expansion. In the spring and summer of 1985, these areas were converted into classrooms.
Sister Felician last taught at Holy Name of Mary in 1998, but the school community still feels the Sisters' presence within its 875-student community and its diverse academic programs.
In September 2008, Holy Name of Mary Catholic Secondary School moved to Brampton. Here, the school continued the Felician tradition of a single-sex school with high academic expectations for all students. It also received a warm welcome from the Brampton community as it developed and established new traditions with the blessing of God. Holy Name of Mary Catholic Secondary School is the only girls-only secondary school in Brampton.
