Sponsoring grandparents and parents in Canada.

The Minister has just announced information regarding the Grandparent/Parent Sponsorship Program for 2022. However, only those who submitted their application form in 2020 are eligible to receive an invitation to apply. Details are as follows:

1. INTEREST TO SPONSOR FORMS - 2020

Only those who submitted Interest to Sponsor (ITS) forms in 2020 are eligible for this invitation. There is no opening for new forms this year.

2. Invitations to apply

IRCC will send 23,100 invitations to those who submitted the ITS form in 2020 based on a random draw. The draw will take place over the next two weeks. You need to regularly check the email account you used when submitting ITS. Don't forget to check your spam or junk folder as well!

3. INCOME

Income will be calculated for the years 2019, 2020, and 2021. Due to the financial difficulties caused by the pandemic, for the tax years 2020 and 2021, the income requirement will be only the minimum necessary income without the additional 30%; additionally, Employment Insurance benefits and COVID-19 relief payments such as CERB will be included in the income calculation.

4. APPLICATION DEADLINE

If you are invited to apply, you have until December 24, 2022 to submit your application. Incomplete applications will be returned, and you will not have another opportunity to resubmit your application within this period.
