New benefits for international students
Today, Minister Sean Fraser announced two important measures for international students as follows:
1. From November 15, 2022, to December 31, 2023, international students in Canada who work off-campus under their study permit will no longer be limited to 20 hours per week. This means there will be no limit on the number of hours worked off-campus. However, this temporary measure will only apply to students who:
- Have a study permit, or
- Have a visa approval letter but haven't arrived in Canada yet, or
- These are students who applied for a study permit before October 7th and are awaiting approval.
2. Starting this month, IRCC will be piloting the automation of processing study permit renewal applications in Canada with the goal of reducing processing times for simple applications.
