The Alberta Opportunity Stream, part of the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program (AAIP), allows eligible applicants to apply for nomination to become permanent residents of Canada. This is an ideal option for those working in Alberta with a valid work permit and a job offer in eligible occupations.

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Residence Status and Work Permit :

  • Applicants must have valid temporary resident status in Canada and a valid work permit at the time of application and when AAIP assesses the application.
  • Work permits must be based on one of the following types:
    • The Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) was positive.
    • Exemptions from LMIAs include, for example, labor under international trade agreements, intra-company transfers, or open work permit policies.

2. Eligible Occupations :

  • Applicants must be employed in a valid occupation in Alberta at the time of application. Most occupations in TEER categories 0 through 5 are eligible.
  • Ineligible occupations include positions such as: legislators, judges, elementary and secondary school teachers, actors, artists, and employees in other personal services.

3. Language Requirements :

  • Applicants must meet a minimum language proficiency benchmark (CLB) depending on the TEER occupation type:
    • TEER 0, 1, 2, 3: Minimum of 5 members per skill.
    • TEER 4, 5: Minimum of 4 members per skill in each club.
    • Medical assistants and nurses need Club 7 for all skills.

4. Educational Requirements :

  • Applicants must have a minimum educational qualification equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma.
  • An Educational Accreditation Assessment (ECA) is required for qualifications obtained outside of Canada. Applicants with qualifications from accredited Canadian educational institutions do not need an ECA.

5. Work Experience :

  • Applicants must have at least 12 months of full-time work experience in their current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months, or 24 months of full-time work experience within the last 30 months in Canada or overseas.

6. Job Offer :

  • Applicants must have a full-time job offer from a valid employer in Alberta at the time of application. The job must meet the requirements of the AAIP and Alberta regulations.
