C50/C51 – Religious and Charitable Work Permit
For work of a religious or charitable nature under R205(d).
Target Audience and Key Requirements
- C50: Duties must be genuinely religious in nature and the applicant must be qualified to perform them.
- C51: Work must be of a charitable nature, which may be paid or unpaid.
- Check definitions of work, job offer, and specific employer/exemption conditions.
Documents to Prepare
Organization letter, duties, job offer, qualifications/experience, and evidence of the nature of the activity.
Important Notes
Working at a religious/non-profit organization does not automatically qualify one for this category. Some religious leaders are exempt from work permits under R186(l); volunteers are not the same as other unpaid workers.
LMIA exemption does not waive the requirement to meet work permit conditions. Work permit and permanent residency applications are assessed separately.
