If you are in Canada on a tourist visa but for some reason cannot leave Canada on time, you can extend your stay by applying for a Visitor Record.
Visitor record is
- This document gives you tourist status in Canada and allows you to stay longer.
- This includes the new expiry date, the last day you must leave Canada.

Leaving and returning to Canada
A Visitor Record allows you to stay longer, but it is not a document that allows you to leave and then re-enter Canada.
If you plan to leave Canada, you will need valid entry documents, such as a visitor visa or eTA, to return to Canada.
Who can submit visitor records?
Visitor record is for those who want
- extend your stay in Canada as a tourist. or
- change license type from
- study permit to visitor record
- work permit to visitor record
When should I apply?
You should apply at least 30 days before your current status expires.
The expiration date for your status is on
- The stamp in your passport (this is NOT the date printed on your tourist visa)
- If you do not have a stamp in your passport, the validity period is 6 months from the date you entered Canada.
- study permit
- work permit or
- Visitor record (if you have previously applied for a visitor record)
The following documents are required:
- Scan or take a picture directly like a scan.
- If there is a translation, the entire set must be scanned: the Vietnamese copy must be bound together with the translator's copy.
- If a translation is not yet available, please scan the original document in color for the translation company.
- Passport valid for at least 6 months: scan all pages containing personal information, visas, and customs stamps from various countries.
- Digital photo : taken within the last 6 months, can be taken with a phone against a white wall, no smiling, no glasses or hat.

Financial documents: Bank statement showing the amount in a Canadian bank account, or a savings account in Vietnam in the applicant's name.
- If you have relatives (children, spouse) in Canada: Study permit, PR card, or Canadian passport
