Abbotsford School District – Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada

Abbotsford School District (SD34) is a public school district in the city of Abbotsford, in the Fraser Valley region of British Columbia, near the Vancouver area. International students study alongside Canadian students in an English-speaking environment, with opportunities to participate in clubs, extracurricular activities, and experience local life.

1. School System and Academic Programs

The school district accepts international students in elementary, middle, and high school, typically aged 5–18; students must not turn 19 during the program. Options include one semester (September–January or February–June), one academic year, or multiple years. There are no short-term summer or winter camp programs. School placement depends on academic records, academic level, and availability; admission to a specific school is not guaranteed.

2. Learning Environment and International Student Support

Students follow the British Columbia curriculum, practicing English daily with native peers. The international program has support staff (International Assistants) for students. Electives, specialized programs, clubs, and extracurricular activities vary by school; KeyApply will verify suitable options before submitting applications.

3. International Tuition Fees for the 2026–2027 Academic Year

Program fee: 16,500 CAD/academic year or 8,250 CAD/semester; includes tuition, textbooks, and health insurance as required by the program. Application fee: 200 CAD, non-refundable. If using district-organized homestay: homestay application fee is 450 CAD; homestay fee is 12,400 CAD/year or 6,400 CAD/semester, according to the published fee schedule. Airport transfer fees, personal expenses, and additional costs may apply. Tuition and conditions are subject to change; KeyApply will confirm before submission.

4. Homestay, Guardianship, and Living Arrangements

The district has a homestay program with carefully selected families. Students from age 12 may be eligible for homestay; children under 12 must live with their parents or appropriate immediate relatives. Some restrictions apply to 18-year-old students, medical conditions, or dietary requirements. Note: The district’s own homestay program has stopped accepting new students for the September 2026 intake; private homestay providers may be considered according to district guidelines. Housing and guardianship must be verified before registration. The school district does not provide boarding schools by default.

5. Admission Requirements and Documents

Applications typically include a passport, academic transcripts/report cards, student and parent information, and guardianship or homestay documents when required. The district reviews qualifications, academic results, and availability. International students must meet study permit requirements appropriate to their situation; school admission does not guarantee visa issuance.
