1. Introduction to the College

Bow Valley College is a public post-secondary educational institution in Alberta, Canada. The college offers programs for international students and is listed on the IRCC’s Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list. A suitable approach is to start by selecting a field of study and credential type, then cross-reference entry requirements, campus location, duration, and budget.

2. Location and Learning Environment

Location: Calgary. As the college has multiple campuses, not every program is offered at every location. Before renting housing or booking travel, confirm the learning location and whether the format is in-person, hybrid, or online via your Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and the program webpage. Budget separately for housing, food, transportation, insurance, and costs for accompanying family members.

3. Academic Programs

Fields of study to explore in the college catalog include business, technology, health, community studies, and specialized training. Program types include certificates, diplomas, and professional development programs. The overall college catalog and the catalog open to international students may differ; you must select a program currently accepting applications for your intended intake.

Certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and bachelor's degrees have different levels and requirements. A graduate certificate is not a master's degree. If you intend to transfer to a university, check credit transfer agreements, grade requirements, and the number of credits that will actually be recognized. For co-op, practicum, or placement components, verify whether they are mandatory or elective, participation requirements, and necessary documentation.

4. Admission Requirements and Application

The college evaluates applications based on individual programs and the educational credentials of the student's home country. Applicants must compare their diplomas, transcripts, prerequisite subjects (such as English, math, or science), and specific requirements listed on the program webpage. Post-diploma programs may require a relevant associate/bachelor's degree; art-related programs may require a portfolio, audition, or interview; and clinical/practicum programs may require supplementary documentation.

Prepare your passport, degrees, transcripts, required translations, and school-accepted language certificates. Check the minimum overall score, individual skill requirements, and certificate validity periods for your specific level of study; a single IELTS requirement does not apply to all programs. English/EAP pathways and exemption conditions must be confirmed separately. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if a program is competitive or has reached capacity.

5. International Tuition and Budgeting

For the 2026–2027 academic year, the International Tuition for Business Administration – General Business is 8,453 CAD for Term 1 and 8,535 CAD for Term 2, totaling 16,988 CAD in tuition for the first two terms. Subsequent terms and other programs have their own rates; mandatory fees and living expenses are not included in this tuition. View the official fee schedule.

Separate tuition from ancillary/student fees, insurance, books, equipment, uniforms, lab fees, placement fees, and living costs. When the schedule lists prices per term or per credit, you must calculate the total based on the exact number of terms/credits in your study plan. Deposits are typically applied toward your tuition balance; read refund conditions and deadlines carefully before making payment. Tuition tags on KeyApply, if provided, are only for relative comparison between schools, similar to "Master's & Doctoral" group classifications; they do not replace official program fee quotes.

6. Scholarships and Financial Aid

Scholarships and awards have specific conditions regarding programs, academic years, performance, documentation, and international student status. Check whether each award is open to international students or limited to citizens/permanent residents, and verify application deadlines and maintenance requirements. Do not consider a scholarship as guaranteed until you receive written confirmation from the college.

7. Intakes and Enrollment Status

Start dates and application deadlines are published per program and are not universal for all fields. When choosing a Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer intake, verify that the program is offered in that term, the specific campus, document submission deadlines, and deposit due dates. Enrollment status—open, waitlist, closed, or suspended—can change; KeyApply will verify this before assisting with your application.

8. DLI, Study Permit, and PGWP

DLI Number: O19273769422. You must use this number and the campus corresponding to your LOA when preparing your application. Being a public institution with a DLI number does not mean every program is eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

Before registering, check if the program is PGWP-eligible, the CIP code and field of study requirements (if applicable), credential type, study format, and your personal academic history. Under current IRCC guidelines, college/polytechnic programs that do not grant a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree typically require a CLB/NCLC 5 in all four language skills; program-specific requirements apply if the study permit application is submitted on or after November 1, 2024, subject to IRCC conditions and exemptions. Bachelor's degree programs have separate regulations.

Students must also meet personal conditions such as program duration, full-time student status, PGWP application deadlines, and online learning regulations. ESL-only programs and programs delivered by private institutions under licensing agreements have different rules. The LOA, PAL/TAL (if required), and study permit are distinct steps; the college does not decide the issuance of permits. Studying at the college does not guarantee the issuance of a PGWP, a 3-year term, employment, or permanent residency.

9. Application Process with KeyApply

  1. Submit your degrees, transcripts, language certificates (if applicable), intended program, desired intake, and budget.
  2. Compare programs currently accepting international students, entry requirements, campuses, fees, and PGWP eligibility based on your profile.
  3. Prepare your application according to the official checklist, including translations and supplementary documents; submit via the official admissions channel as directed by the college.
  4. Review offer conditions, complete outstanding requirements, and pay the deposit by the deadline as instructed by the college.
  5. Receive your LOA, complete PAL/TAL steps if applicable, and prepare your study permit application. Immigration advice is handled by an RCIC or lawyer.
  6. Verify invoices, register for courses, arrange housing, insurance, and review orientation materials before starting classes.
