1. School Introduction

Confederation College is a public post-secondary educational institution in Ontario, Canada. The college offers programs for international students and is listed on the IRCC’s Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list. A suitable approach for selecting a program is to start with the field of study and credential type, then cross-reference entry requirements, campus, duration, and budget.

2. Location and Learning Environment

Location: Thunder Bay and regional campuses throughout Northwestern Ontario. As the college has multiple locations, not every program is offered at every campus. Before booking housing or flights, confirm the program location and mode of study (in-person, hybrid, or online) on your Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and the program page. Create a separate budget for housing, food, transportation, insurance, and costs for accompanying family members.

3. Academic Programs

Fields of study available in the college’s catalog include business, aviation, engineering, health, community services, and trades. Program types include certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, and degrees/graduate certificates according to the catalog. The college’s overall catalog and the programs open to international students may differ; you must select a program that is currently accepting applications for your intended intake.

Certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and bachelor’s degrees have different levels and requirements. A graduate certificate is not a master's degree. If you wish to transfer to a university, check for credit transfer agreements, grade requirements, and the number of credits actually recognized. For programs with co-ops, practicums, or placements, review whether they are mandatory or elective, participation requirements, and necessary documentation.

4. Admission Requirements and Application

The college evaluates applications based on specific program requirements and the educational equivalence of the country where you studied. Candidates must compare their diplomas, transcripts, prerequisites (such as English, math, or science), and specific requirements listed on the program page. Post-graduate programs may require a relevant college diploma or university degree; arts programs may require a portfolio, audition, or interview; and programs with clinical or field placements may require additional documentation.

Prepare your passport, diplomas, transcripts, required translations, and language certificates accepted by the college. Check the overall score requirements, individual skill scores, and certificate validity periods for your level of study; there is no universal IELTS score applied to every program. EAP/English pathways and criteria for language waivers must be confirmed separately. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if the program is competitive or full.

5. International Tuition and Budgeting

The Fall 2026–27 intake table lists Computer Programming, Year 1: Fall 9,827.75 CAD and Winter 8,758.50 CAD, totaling 18,586.25 CAD for tuition and mandatory fees. The table includes mandatory ancillary fees; books, uniforms, supplies, industry-specific exam fees, and living expenses are calculated separately. Official fee source.

Separate tuition from ancillary/student fees, insurance, books, equipment, uniforms, lab fees, placement fees, and living expenses. When the table lists costs per term or per credit, you must multiply them by the correct number of terms/credits for your program path. The deposit is usually applied toward your tuition account; read the refund policies and deadlines carefully before paying. The tuition tag on KeyApply, when available, is for relative comparison between schools—similar to how Master's & PhD groups are categorized—and does not replace the specific program fee schedule.

6. Scholarships and Financial Aid

Scholarships and awards have specific conditions regarding the program, academic year, academic performance, application status, and international student status. Check if each award is open to international students or restricted to citizens/permanent residents, and review deadlines and maintenance requirements. Do not consider a scholarship as guaranteed funding until you have received written confirmation from the college.

7. Intakes and Admission Status

Start dates and application deadlines are published by individual program, not as a general calendar for all majors. When choosing a Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer intake, verify that the program is offered in that term, confirm the campus, documentation deadlines, and deposit payment cutoff. Statuses such as open, waitlist, closed, or suspended can change; KeyApply will re-verify status before assisting with your application.

8. DLI, Study Permit, and PGWP

DLI Number: O19376986752. Use the DLI number and campus corresponding to your LOA when preparing your application. Being a public institution with a DLI does not mean all programs are eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

Before enrolling, verify if the program is PGWP-eligible, check the CIP code and field of study requirements (if applicable), credential type, mode of study, and your educational history. Under current IRCC guidance, college/polytechnic programs that do not grant a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree generally require a CLB/NCLC level 5 in all four language skills; specific field of study requirements apply if the study permit application was submitted on or after November 1, 2024, subject to IRCC conditions and exemptions. Bachelor's degree programs follow separate regulations.

Students must also meet individual conditions such as program duration, full-time study status, PGWP application deadlines, and regulations regarding online learning. English-only programs and programs taught by private institutions under licensing agreements have different regulations. The LOA, PAL/TAL (if required), and study permit are distinct steps; the college does not determine permit approval. Studying at the college does not guarantee the issuance of a PGWP, a 3-year permit, job placement, or permanent residency.

9. Application Process with KeyApply

  1. Submit your diplomas, transcripts, language certificates (if any), preferred program, intake, and budget.
  2. Compare programs currently accepting international students, entry requirements, campus, fees, and PGWP eligibility based on your profile.
  3. Prepare documents according to the required checklist, including translations and supplemental materials; submit via the official admissions channel as directed by the college.
  4. Read the offer conditions, fulfill any missing requirements, and pay the deposit on time per the college’s instructions.
  5. Receive your LOA, complete the PAL/TAL process if applicable, and prepare your study permit application. Immigration consulting is handled by an RCIC or lawyer.
  6. Verify your invoices, register for courses, arrange housing, insurance, and attend orientation before starting classes.
