1. Introduction to the College

Durham College is a public post-secondary educational institution in Ontario, Canada. The college offers programs for international students and is listed on the IRCC’s Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list. The appropriate selection approach is to start with the field of study and type of credential, then cross-reference entry requirements, campus, duration, and budget.

2. Location and Learning Environment

Location: Oshawa and Whitby, Ontario, Canada. Programs may be available in Oshawa or Whitby; please confirm the campus and practical schedule on the program page. Before renting housing or booking tickets, verify the study location and delivery format on your LOA; create a separate budget for housing, transportation, and living expenses.

3. Academic Programs

Fields of study to explore include business, information technology, engineering, skilled trades, health, community services, media, and hospitality. The college offers certificates, diplomas, and various post-graduate or other credential pathways depending on the portfolio. Only select programs open to international students at the correct campus and intake.

Certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and bachelor's degrees have different levels and requirements. A graduate certificate is not a master's degree. If you intend to transfer to a university, check credit transfer agreements, grade requirements, and the number of credits actually recognized. Regarding co-op, practicum, or placement, consider whether it is mandatory or elective, the entry requirements, and the necessary documentation.

4. Admission Requirements and Application

The college assesses applications on a program-by-program basis and according to the educational equivalence of the applicant's home country. Candidates should cross-reference their high school diplomas, transcripts, prerequisite subjects such as English, math, or science, along with specific requirements on the program page. Post-graduate programs may require a relevant college diploma/university degree; arts programs may require a portfolio, audition, or interview; and programs with practical components may require supplementary documentation.

Prepare your passport, diplomas, transcripts, required translations, and language certificates accepted by the college. Check the total score, individual band requirements, and the validity period of the certificate for your specific level of study; a general IELTS score does not apply to all programs. English/EAP pathways and exemption conditions must be confirmed separately. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if the program is competitive or full.

5. International Tuition and Budgeting

The 2026–2027 fee schedule lists the standard international full-time tuition per term: 1,388.24 CAD + international premium 6,356.22 CAD = 7,744.46 CAD/term; a two-term illustration is 15,488.92 CAD in tuition. This does not include ancillary fees, books, or program-specific costs. Non-standard programs have higher rates.

Separate tuition from ancillary/student fees, insurance, books, equipment, uniforms, lab fees, placement fees, and living expenses. When the table lists fees by term or credit, you must sum the correct number of terms/credits for the pathway. Deposits are typically applied to the tuition account; read the refund conditions and deadlines before payment. The tuition tag on KeyApply, where available, only helps with relative comparison between colleges, similar to classifying Master's & PhD groups; it does not replace the program's official fee quote.

6. Scholarships and Financial Aid

Scholarships and awards have specific conditions regarding the program, academic year, academic performance, application, and international student status. Check if each award is open to international students or limited to citizens/permanent residents, as well as deadlines and maintenance requirements. Do not consider a scholarship as guaranteed until you receive written confirmation from the college.

7. Intakes and Enrollment Status

Start dates and application deadlines are published per program, not as a general calendar for all majors. When choosing a Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer intake, check if that specific program is open for that term, the campus, document submission deadlines, and deposit due dates. Statuses like open, waitlist, closed, or suspended can change; KeyApply will verify this before assisting with your application.

8. DLI, Study Permit, and PGWP

DLI Number: O19361081012. You must use the DLI number and campus that correspond to your LOA when preparing your application. Being a public institution with a DLI number does not mean that every program is eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

Before registering, check if the program is PGWP-eligible, the CIP code and field of study requirements if applicable, the credential type, study format, and the applicant's academic history. Under current IRCC guidelines, college/polytechnic programs that do not grant a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree generally require CLB/NCLC 5 in all four language skills; field of study requirements apply when the study permit application is submitted on or after November 1, 2024, subject to IRCC conditions and exemptions. Bachelor's degree programs have their own regulations.

Students must also meet individual conditions such as program duration, full-time study status, PGWP application deadlines, and online learning regulations. Stand-alone English programs and programs delivered by private institutions under licensing agreements have different rules. The LOA, PAL/TAL (if required), and study permit are separate steps; the college does not decide on permit issuance. Studying at the college does not guarantee the issuance of a PGWP, a 3-year term, employment, or permanent residency.

9. Application Process with KeyApply

  2. Compare programs currently accepting international students, entry requirements, campus, fees, and PGWP eligibility based on your profile.
  3. Prepare your application according to the checklist, translations, and supplementary documents; submit through the official admissions channel as directed by the college.
