1. About the Institution

George Brown Polytechnic is a public post-secondary educational institution in Ontario, Canada. The college offers programs for international students and is listed on the IRCC’s Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list. A suitable approach for selecting a program is to start with the field of study and credential type, then cross-reference entry requirements, campus locations, duration, and budget.

2. Location and Learning Environment

Location: Toronto, including the St. James, Casa Loma, and Waterfront campuses. As the institution has multiple campuses, not every program is available at all locations. Before securing housing or booking flights, confirm the study location and the mode of delivery (in-person, hybrid, or online) via your Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and the program page. Create a separate budget for housing, meals, transportation, insurance, and costs for any accompanying family members.

3. Academic Programs

Fields available in the college catalog include business, design and creative industries, culinary arts, construction and engineering, health, and community services. Program types include certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, and graduate certificates. The overall college catalog and the list of programs open to international students may differ; ensure you select a program currently accepting applications for your intended intake.

Certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and bachelor’s degrees have different levels and requirements. A graduate certificate is not a master's degree. If you intend to transfer to a university, check credit transfer agreements, minimum grade requirements, and the number of credits actually recognized. For co-op, practicum, or placement components, verify whether they are mandatory or elective, participation requirements, and necessary documentation.

4. Admissions Requirements and Application Documents

The institution evaluates applications on a per-program basis and considers the educational equivalency of the country where you completed your studies. Applicants must cross-reference their diplomas, transcripts, prerequisite subjects (such as English, math, or science), and any specific requirements listed on the program page. Post-graduate programs may require a relevant diploma/degree; arts programs may require a portfolio, audition, or interview; and programs with clinical or field placements may require additional documentation.

Prepare your passport, degrees, transcripts, required translations, and the language proficiency certificates accepted by the college. Check the minimum overall score, individual section requirements, and the validity period for your study level; a single, universal IELTS score does not apply to every program. English pathways/EAP and criteria for language proficiency waivers must be confirmed separately. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if the program is competitive or already at capacity.

5. International Tuition and Budgeting

The 2026–2027 Fees section lists a base tuition for diplomas/certificates of 17,265.08 CAD for two terms or 25,897.62 CAD for three terms; graduate/post-graduate certificates are 17,592.92 CAD for two terms. This does not include incidental fees, insurance, or program-specific fees. Certain specialized programs may have higher tuition; do not use the 2025–26 table on the same page for the 2026–27 academic year. View the official fee schedule.

Separate tuition from ancillary/student fees, insurance, books, equipment, uniforms, lab fees, placements, and living expenses. When the table lists prices by term or credit, you must calculate the total based on the exact number of terms/credits in your program path. Deposits are typically applied to your tuition account; read the refund policies and deadlines before making any payment. Tuition tags on KeyApply, when present, are only intended for relative comparison between institutions, similar to the "Master's & PhD" classification, and do not replace the official program fee quote.

6. Scholarships and Financial Aid

The Onshore International Student Scholarship page outlines a one-time 2,000 CAD scholarship for eligible international applicants who are already in Canada when applying. This applies to the Fall 2026, Winter 2027, and Spring 2027 intakes, subject to the application date criteria listed on the page. This amount is disbursed in two 1,000 CAD credits after the 10th day of each of the first two terms. Funding is limited; ensure you verify all criteria, eligible programs, and registration status.

7. Intake Dates and Enrollment Status

Start dates and application deadlines are published per program and do not follow a general schedule for all disciplines. When choosing a Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer intake, verify if the specific program is offered during that term, check the campus, document submission deadlines, and the deposit due date. Statuses such as "open," "waitlist," "closed," or "suspended" can change; KeyApply will verify this again before assisting with your application.

8. DLI, Study Permit, and PGWP

DLI Number: O19283850612. You must use the DLI number and campus location that matches your Letter of Acceptance (LOA) when preparing your application. While the institution is public, having a DLI number does not guarantee that every program is eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

Before registering, check if the program is PGWP-eligible, confirm the CIP code and field of study requirements if applicable, the credential level, mode of study, and your educational history. Under current IRCC guidelines, college/polytechnic programs that do not grant a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree generally require a language proficiency of CLB/NCLC 5 in all four skills; field of study requirements apply if the study permit application was submitted on or after November 1, 2024, subject to IRCC conditions and exemptions. Bachelor’s degree programs have separate regulations.

Students must also meet individual conditions such as program duration, full-time enrollment status, PGWP application deadlines, and regulations regarding online learning. ESL programs and programs delivered by private institutions under licensing agreements are subject to different rules. The LOA, PAL/TAL (if required), and study permit are separate steps; the institution does not decide the issuance of permits. Studying at the college does not guarantee the issuance of a PGWP, a 3-year term, employment, or permanent residency.
