1. Introduction to the College
Georgian College is a public post-secondary educational institution in Ontario, Canada. The college offers programs for international students and is included on the IRCC’s list of Designated Learning Institutions (DLI). An appropriate selection approach is to start with the field of study and the credential type, then cross-reference entry requirements, campus, duration, and budget.
2. Location and Learning Environment
Locations: Barrie, Owen Sound, and other locations as specified by the program. For multi-campus colleges, not every program is offered at every campus. Before leasing accommodation or booking flights, verify the location of study and the delivery format (in-person, hybrid, or online) on your letter of acceptance and the program webpage. Establish a separate budget for housing, meals, transportation, insurance, and costs for accompanying family members.
3. Academic Programs
Fields available for exploration in the college’s catalog include business, engineering, technology, health, community services, tourism, and skilled trades. Credential types include certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, degrees, and graduate certificates. The college's overall catalog and the list of programs open to international students may differ; you must select a program currently accepting applications for your intended intake.
Certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and bachelor's degrees have different levels and requirements. A graduate certificate is not a master's degree. If you intend to transfer to a university, check credit transfer agreements, grade requirements, and the number of credits that will actually be recognized. Regarding co-op, practicum, or placement, verify whether these are mandatory or elective, as well as the participation conditions and required documentation.
4. Admission Requirements and Application
The college assesses applications on a program-specific basis and based on the educational equivalence of the country where you studied. Applicants must cross-reference their diploma, transcripts, prerequisite subjects (such as English, math, or science), and individual requirements found on the specific program page. Post-diploma programs may require a relevant college/university degree; arts programs may require a portfolio, audition, or interview; and programs with clinical or field components may require supplemental documents.
Prepare your passport, degrees, transcripts, required translations, and language certificates accepted by the college. Check the overall score requirements, individual skill requirements, and the validity period for your level of study; there is no universal IELTS score applied to all programs. EAP/English pathways and conditions for English proficiency waivers must be confirmed separately. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if the program is competitive or at capacity.
5. International Tuition and Budgeting
The international finance page currently publishes reference rates per year: certificates approximately 17,170–18,170 CAD, diplomas approximately 16,990–29,200 CAD, and graduate certificates approximately 17,900–19,280 CAD. These figures may include ancillary fees, insurance, and other costs; the page does not provide a single price applicable to all academic years. Review program-specific fees before payment; some diplomas are higher than the college’s representative rates. View the official fee schedule.
Separate tuition from ancillary/student fees, insurance, books, equipment, uniforms, lab fees, placement fees, and living expenses. When the table lists prices per term or credit, you must multiply by the correct number of terms/credits for your specific pathway. Deposits are usually applied to the tuition balance; read refund conditions and deadlines before making any payments. The tuition tag on KeyApply, when available, serves only for relative comparison between institutions, similar to the classification of Master’s & PhD groups; it does not replace the official program fee quote.
6. Scholarships and Financial Aid
Scholarships and awards have specific conditions regarding the program, academic year, grades, application status, and international student status. You must verify if each award is open to international students or restricted to citizens/permanent residents, as well as application deadlines and maintenance requirements. Do not consider scholarships as guaranteed funding until you have received written confirmation from the college.
7. Intakes and Enrollment Status
Start dates and application deadlines are published by individual program, not as a general calendar for all majors. When choosing a Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer intake, check if the program is offered in that term, the campus location, additional documentation deadlines, and the deposit due date. Open, waitlist, closed, or suspended statuses can change; KeyApply will re-verify these before assisting with your application submission.
8. DLI, Study Permit, and PGWP
DLI Number: O19395677361. You must use the DLI number and campus location that correspond with your Letter of Acceptance (LOA) when preparing your application. Being a public institution with a DLI does not mean all programs are eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
Before registering, check if the program is PGWP-eligible, review its CIP code and field of study requirements (if applicable), credential level, study format, and your own academic history. Under current IRCC guidelines, college/polytechnic programs that do not grant bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees generally require CLB/NCLC 5 language proficiency in all four skills; program-specific requirements apply if a study permit application is submitted on or after November 1, 2024, subject to IRCC conditions and exemptions. Bachelor’s degree programs have separate regulations.
Students must also meet personal conditions such as program duration, full-time enrollment status, PGWP application deadlines, and online study regulations. Standalone English programs and programs offered by private institutions under licensing agreements have different regulations. The LOA, PAL/TAL (if needed), and the study permit are distinct steps; the college does not issue the permit. Studying at the college does not guarantee the issuance of a PGWP, a 3-year term, employment, or permanent residency.
