Introduction and Institution Type
The Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) is a public post-secondary educational institution specializing in public safety, law, and emergency response in British Columbia. The school accepts international students. In the Public College collection, JIBC is categorized as a public institute; it is not a research university.
Learning Locations
The New Westminster campus is located at 715 McBride Boulevard, New Westminster, British Columbia. The Law Enforcement Studies Diploma is taught in a cohort format here. JIBC has other training locations; the programs and campus listed on the offer letter are the final authority. The poster uses actual photos of the New Westminster campus.
Academic Programs
The international list currently includes the Law Enforcement Studies Diploma, Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Law Enforcement Studies, Bachelor of Law Enforcement Studies, and Primary Care Paramedicine. The law enforcement diploma program includes criminal law, investigation, communication, research, and practical skills. Do not assume that all short-term or vocational courses at JIBC are available to international applicants or qualify for a study permit.
Admission Requirements
The international brochure specifies an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or an English proficiency option accepted by the institution. The post-baccalaureate group requires a relevant bachelor's degree. For the Law Enforcement Studies Diploma, a high school diploma, Grade 12 English at a C grade or equivalent, a 250-word statement of intent, and a Criminal Record Check completed according to guidelines are required. Admission is competitive and may require an interview. Vietnamese transcripts must be evaluated for equivalency by the school; do not convert grades independently.
International Tuition
The 2026–2027 international brochure states the first-year tuition for the Law Enforcement Studies Diploma is approximately 17,500 CAD; the current program page lists an estimated cost of approximately 18,000 CAD/year. These are two reference points published by two different sources from the school itself; you should request the official fee schedule for the specific cohort rather than treating these as fixed prices. The brochure lists a 150 CAD international application fee and a 5,000 CAD commitment deposit; do not use the 75 CAD application fee from the general page for international applicants. Insurance, student union, academic support, books, equipment, and living expenses are calculated separately. The Average Tuition tag is based on this diploma example; Paramedicine has different costs.
Scholarships
The Law Enforcement Studies page mentions awards and bursaries, including the JIBC General Student Bursary, with separate eligibility criteria. Contact financialaid@jibc.ca to confirm international student eligibility and the current application cycle. There is no guarantee that all international applicants will receive scholarships or full tuition reductions.
Intakes
The Law Enforcement Studies Diploma typically has September and January intakes. The program page currently lists the completed application deadline for September 2027 as March 10, 2027. Do not view the general intake calendar as confirmation that Winter 2027 is still accepting applications. Check the specific intake and deadlines for Primary Care Paramedicine and other programs.
DLI and PGWP
DLI: O19394941140, categorized as a Public institution on the IRCC list. JIBC’s international program page states that the listed programs are eligible for study permits and PGWPs based on the program code; this does not apply to all courses at the school. Learners must still meet full IRCC requirements at the time of application, including language, duration, and mode of study, along with other relevant requirements. A Law Enforcement Studies degree does not guarantee recruitment into the police force, issuance of professional licenses, PGWPs, or permanent residency.
Application Process
According to the international brochure: select the program and check requirements; apply online via JIBC instructions and pay the international fee; submit transcripts, proof of English proficiency, and additional documents to the international department. If accepted, review the Offer of Admission and submit the commitment deposit by the deadline; receive the LOA and PAL where applicable; then apply for a study permit. For programs requiring a background check, prepare the specific type of document and submission method accepted by the school; do not replace it with an online check result.
