1. Introduction to the institution
La Cité is a public post-secondary educational institution in Ontario, Canada. The college offers programs for international students and is listed on the IRCC’s Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list. A suitable approach is to start by identifying your field of study and the type of credential, then compare admission requirements, campus, duration, and budget.
2. Location and learning environment
Location: Ottawa; other locations depend on the program, in Ontario, Canada. La Cité is a French-language public college. The international list features some programs open for Winter/January and Spring/May 2027; applications for the 2027–28 year are not yet open at the time of verification. French language proficiency must be checked according to the program, as there is no single general IELTS requirement. Before renting housing or booking tickets, confirm the location and delivery mode on your LOA; create a separate budget for housing, transportation, and living expenses.
3. Academic programs
Fields of study include business and administration, information technology, technology and engineering, health, community services, and communications. The college offers certificates, diplomas, and post-graduate or other credential pathways depending on the catalog. Only select programs currently open to international students at the correct campus and intake term.
Certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and bachelor's degrees have different levels and requirements. A graduate certificate is not a master's degree. If you intend to transfer to a university, you must verify credit transfer agreements, grade requirements, and the actual number of credits recognized. For co-op, practicum, or placement, determine if these are mandatory or optional, and check the participation requirements and necessary documentation.
4. Admission requirements and application
The college evaluates applications based on individual programs and the educational equivalency of the country where you studied. Applicants must compare their diplomas, transcripts, prerequisites (such as English, math, or science), and specific requirements on the program page. Post-graduate programs may require a relevant diploma/degree; arts programs may require a portfolio, audition, or interview; and practical programs may require additional documentation.
Prepare your passport, diplomas, transcripts, required translations, and language certificates accepted by the college. Check the total score, score per skill, and validity period for the specific level of study; there is no single general IELTS requirement for all programs. French requirements, accepted tests, and cases requiring English must be confirmed directly with La Cité. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if the program is competitive or seats are full.
5. International tuition and budgeting
International Administration des affaires tuition for 2026–27: each étape consists of 1,384.55 CAD in tuition fees and 5,154.30 CAD in international student fees. The first two étapes total 13,077.70 CAD for these two items; the total first-year cost published by the college is 15,535.94 CAD. The table only includes the first two étapes, not the entire six-étape program. Books, computers, and living expenses are calculated separately. Official fee schedule.
Separate tuition from ancillary/student fees, insurance, books, equipment, uniforms, lab fees, placement fees, and living expenses. When the table lists prices by semester or credit, you must add the correct number of semesters/credits for your path. Deposits are usually applied to your tuition account; you must read the refund policy and deadlines before payment. The tuition tag on KeyApply, when available, is only for relative comparison between schools, similar to the Master's & PhD group classification, and does not replace the program's official fee quote.
6. Scholarships and financial aid
Scholarships and awards have specific conditions regarding programs, academic years, academic performance, applications, and international student status. You must check whether each award is open to international students or only to citizens/permanent residents, as well as the application deadlines and maintenance requirements. Do not consider scholarships as guaranteed until you receive written confirmation from the college.
7. Intake terms and admission status
Start dates and application deadlines are published per program, not as a general schedule for all disciplines. When choosing a Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer term, verify if the program is open for that intake, check the campus, additional document deadlines, and the deposit due date. Statuses such as open, waitlist, closed, or suspended may change; KeyApply will verify this again before assisting with your application.
8. DLI, study permit, and PGWP
DLI Number: O19395422135. Use the correct DLI number and campus associated with your LOA when preparing your application. The institution is public, but having a DLI does not mean all programs are eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
Before applying, check if the program is PGWP-eligible, the CIP code and field of study requirements if applicable, the credential type, the delivery mode, and the applicant's academic history. According to current IRCC guidelines, college/polytechnic programs that do not grant bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degrees generally require CLB/NCLC level 5 in all four language skills; field of study requirements apply to study permit applications submitted on or after November 1, 2024, subject to IRCC conditions and exemptions. Bachelor's degree programs have their own regulations.
Students must also meet personal conditions such as program duration, full-time student status, PGWP application deadlines, and online study regulations. English-only programs and programs taught by private institutions under licensing agreements have different rules. The LOA, PAL/TAL (if required), and study permit are separate steps; the college does not decide on permit issuance. Studying at the institution does not guarantee PGWP eligibility, a 3-year permit duration, employment, or permanent residency.
