1. Introduction to the College

Mohawk College is a public post-secondary educational institution in Ontario, Canada. The college offers programs for international students and is listed on the IRCC’s Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list. A suitable approach is to start with the field of study and type of credential, then compare admission requirements, campus, duration, and budget.

2. Location and Learning Environment

Location: Hamilton. As a multi-campus institution, not every program is available at all campuses. Before renting accommodation or booking flights, verify the study location and the learning format (in-person, hybrid, or online) on your letter of acceptance and the program webpage. Set a separate budget for housing, meals, transportation, insurance, and costs for accompanying family members.

3. Academic Programs

Fields of study available in the college catalog include engineering and technology, skilled trades, business, health, media, and community services. Program types include certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, degrees, and graduate certificates. The overall college catalog and the catalog open to international students may differ; ensure you select a program currently accepting applications for your intended intake.

Certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and bachelor's degrees have different levels and requirements. A graduate certificate is not a master's degree. If you intend to transfer to a university, check credit transfer agreements, grade requirements, and the number of credits actually recognized. For co-ops, practicums, or placements, verify whether they are mandatory or elective, participation requirements, and necessary documentation.

4. Admission Requirements and Application

The college evaluates applications based on specific programs and the educational equivalency of your home country. Applicants should cross-reference diplomas, transcripts, prerequisites (such as English, math, or science), and specific requirements on the program page. Post-graduate programs may require an appropriate diploma/degree; arts programs may require a portfolio, audition, or interview; and programs with clinical/practical components may require additional documentation.

Prepare your passport, diplomas, transcripts, required translations, and language certificates accepted by the college. Check total scores, individual skill requirements, and certificate validity periods for your specific level of study; a general IELTS requirement does not apply to all programs. English pathways/EAP and exemptions must be confirmed separately. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if the program is competitive or full.

5. International Tuition and Budgeting

The 2026/27 International Student Fees table lists "Most Programs" tuition at 15,885.15 CAD and total fees at 19,255 CAD, including insurance, ancillary, and recovery taxes as specified in the table. Deregulated and aviation programs have higher rates. Cross-reference your LOA, program fees, co-op requirements, and the number of semesters for your program. View the official fee table.

Separate tuition from ancillary/student fees, insurance, books, equipment, uniforms, lab fees, placement fees, and living expenses. When the table lists prices per semester or credit, you must calculate based on the correct number of semesters/credits for your path. Deposits are typically applied to your tuition account; read the refund conditions and deadlines before payment. Tuition tags on KeyApply, when present, are for relative comparison between schools, similar to the "Master's & PhD" group classification; they do not replace official program fee quotes.

6. Scholarships and Financial Aid

Scholarships and awards have specific conditions regarding programs, academic years, performance, documentation, and international student status. You must check if each award is open to international students or limited to citizens/permanent residents, along with application deadlines and renewal requirements. Do not consider scholarships as guaranteed funding until you receive written confirmation from the college.

7. Intakes and Admission Status

Start dates and application deadlines are published per program, not as a general schedule for all disciplines. When choosing a Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer intake, verify if the program is open for that term, the campus, document submission deadlines, and deposit due dates. Statuses like "open," "waitlist," "closed," or "suspended" may change; KeyApply will re-verify these before assisting with your application.

8. DLI, Study Permit, and PGWP

DLI Number: O19376045902. Use the DLI number and campus location corresponding to your LOA when preparing your application. Being a public college with a DLI does not mean all programs are eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

Before enrolling, check if the program is PGWP-eligible, the CIP code and field of study requirements (if applicable), credential type, study format, and your study history. According to current IRCC guidance, college/polytechnic programs that do not grant a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree generally require a CLB/NCLC 5 level in all four language skills; field of study requirements apply to study permit applications submitted from November 1, 2024, based on IRCC conditions and exceptions. Bachelor's degree programs have separate regulations.

Students must also meet personal requirements such as program duration, full-time status, PGWP application deadlines, and online study regulations. English-only programs and programs taught by private institutions under licensing agreements have different rules. The LOA, PAL/TAL (if required), and study permit are separate steps; the college does not issue immigration permits. Studying at the college does not guarantee a PGWP, a 3-year permit, employment, or permanent residency.

9. Application Process with KeyApply

  1. Submit your diplomas, transcripts, language certificates (if any), preferred program, intake, and budget.
  2. Compare programs currently accepting international students, admission requirements, campuses, fees, and PGWP eligibility based on your profile.
  3. Prepare your application according to the checklist, including translations and additional documents; submit via the official admissions channel guided by the college.
  4. Read the offer conditions, fulfill any missing requirements, and pay the deposit by the college's deadline.
  5. Receive your LOA, complete the PAL/TAL step if applicable, and prepare your study permit application. Immigration advice is provided by an RCIC or a lawyer.
  6. Check your invoices, register for courses, arrange housing, insurance, and attend orientation before starting your studies.
