1. College Introduction
Northern College is a public post-secondary educational institution in Ontario, Canada. The college offers programs for international students and is listed on the IRCC’s Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list. A suitable approach is to start by identifying your field of study and credential level, then cross-reference entry requirements, campus, duration, and budget.
2. Location and Learning Environment
Locations: Timmins, Haileybury, Kirkland Lake, and Moosonee; international programs are not available at all campuses. This page introduces campuses operated directly by Northern College. You must check program requirements individually; do not assume that PGWP information for public campuses applies to programs at Pures or partner facilities. Before leasing housing or booking flights, confirm the study location and delivery mode on your LOA; create a separate budget for housing, transportation, and living expenses.
3. Academic Programs
Fields of study include business and office administration, health, community services, engineering and trades, veterinary sciences, and emergency services. The college offers certificates, diplomas, and other post-graduate or credential pathways depending on the category. Only select programs open to international students at the appropriate campus and intake.
Certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and bachelor’s degrees have different levels and requirements. A graduate certificate is not a master's degree. If you intend to transfer to a university, check credit transfer agreements, GPA requirements, and the number of credits actually recognized. For co-op, practicum, or placement opportunities, clarify whether they are mandatory or elective, the conditions for participation, and the required documentation.
4. Admission Requirements and Application Documents
The college assesses applications based on specific program requirements and the educational equivalence of the applicant's home country. Candidates must cross-check their graduation certificates, transcripts, prerequisites (such as English, math, or science), and any specific requirements on the program page. Post-graduate programs may require a relevant college diploma or university degree; arts programs may require a portfolio, audition, or interview; and clinical or practicum-based programs may require additional documentation.
Prepare your passport, degrees, transcripts, required translations, and language certificates accepted by the college. Verify the overall score, individual band requirements, and certificate validity for your level of study; there is no universal IELTS score for all programs. English/EAP pathways and exemption conditions must be confirmed separately. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if the program is competitive or has reached capacity.
5. International Tuition and Budgeting
The 2026–27 table lists the general international program tuition at 15,715.60 CAD for a two-semester academic year. Ancillary fees vary by campus and are charged in addition. Specialty programs have different rates; note that the BScN figures on the webpage currently show 2025–26 data and should not be used as current tuition quotes.
Separate tuition from ancillary/student fees, insurance, books, equipment, uniforms, lab fees, placement fees, and living costs. When fees are listed per semester or credit, you must calculate the total based on the number of semesters/credits in your pathway. Deposits are typically applied to your tuition account; read the refund policy and deadlines before making any payments. Tuition tags on KeyApply, when available, are for relative comparison between institutions—similar to "Master's & PhD" group classifications—and do not replace official program tuition quotes.
6. Scholarships and Financial Aid
Scholarships and awards have specific conditions regarding programs, academic years, academic performance, profiles, and international student status. Check if each award is open to international students or restricted to citizens/permanent residents, as well as application deadlines and maintenance requirements. Do not consider scholarships as guaranteed funding until you have received formal confirmation in writing from the college.
7. Intakes and Enrollment Status
Start dates and application deadlines are published per program, not as a general calendar for all majors. When selecting a Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer intake, verify that the program is open for that term, the campus, document submission deadlines, and the deposit deadline. Statuses such as "open," "waitlist," "closed," or "suspended" can change; KeyApply will verify this information again before assisting with your application.
8. DLI, Study Permit, and PGWP
DLI Number: O19315830082. You must use the DLI number and campus corresponding to your LOA when preparing your application. Being a public institution with a DLI number does not mean every program is eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
Before enrolling, verify if the program is PGWP-eligible, check the CIP code and field of study requirements (if applicable), the credential level, delivery mode, and your personal study history. Under current IRCC guidelines, college/polytechnic programs that do not lead to a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree generally require CLB/NCLC 5 in all four language skills; these field-of-study requirements apply to study permit applications submitted on or after November 1, 2024, subject to IRCC conditions and exemptions. Bachelor’s degree programs have separate regulations.
Applicants must also meet individual criteria such as program duration, full-time student status, PGWP application deadlines, and online study regulations. Standalone English programs and programs delivered by private institutions under licensing agreements have different rules. The LOA, PAL/TAL (if required), and study permit are distinct steps; the college does not issue immigration permits. Studying at the college does not guarantee the issuance of a PGWP, a 3-year term, employment, or permanent residency.
