1. Introduction to the college

Okanagan College is a public post-secondary educational institution in British Columbia, Canada. The college offers programs for international students and is listed on the IRCC’s Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list. A suitable selection strategy is to begin with the field of study and credential type, then cross-reference entry requirements, campus, duration, and budget.

2. Location and learning environment

Locations: Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon, and Salmon Arm. As the college has multiple locations, not every program is available at all campuses. Before renting accommodation or booking flights, confirm the study location and the delivery format—in-person, hybrid, or online—on your letter of acceptance and the program webpage. Budget separately for housing, food, transportation, insurance, and costs for accompanying family members.

3. Academic programs

Fields to explore in the college’s catalog include business, technology, engineering, trades, and university studies. Program types include certificates, diplomas, associate degrees, and other credential-based programs. The general college catalog and the catalog open to international students may differ; you must select a program that is currently accepting applications for your intended intake.

Certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and bachelor’s degrees have different levels and requirements. A graduate certificate is not a master’s degree. If seeking university transfer, check credit transfer agreements, grade requirements, and the number of credits actually recognized. Regarding co-op, practicum, or placement, verify if these are mandatory or elective, the participation requirements, and necessary documentation.

4. Admission requirements and application

The college evaluates applications based on specific program criteria and the educational equivalency of the applicant's home country. Applicants must compare their diplomas, transcripts, prerequisites (such as English, math, or science), and specific requirements listed on the program page. Post-diploma programs may require a relevant associate/bachelor’s degree; arts programs may require a portfolio, audition, or interview; and clinical/practical programs may require supplemental documents.

Prepare your passport, degrees, transcripts, required translations, and language certificates accepted by the college. Check total scores, minimums per skill, and certificate validity periods for your level of study; there is no universal IELTS requirement for all programs. English pathways/EAP and exemptions must be confirmed separately. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if a program is competitive or has reached capacity.

5. International tuition and budgeting

The 2026/27 international fee schedule for NEW STUDENTS (Fall 2026, Winter 2027, Summer 2027) lists the Business Administration Diploma at a total tuition of 50,950 CAD, approximately 24,878 CAD for the first year. Student fees, books, and living expenses are calculated separately. The college provides a different table for continuing students; do not use the continuing rate to estimate costs for new applicants. View the official fee schedule.

Separate tuition from ancillary/student fees, insurance, books, equipment, uniforms, lab fees, placement fees, and living expenses. When the table lists prices by term or credit, you must multiply by the correct number of terms/credits for your specific pathway. Deposits are usually applied to your tuition account; read refund conditions and deadlines before payment. Tuition tags on KeyApply, if provided, only assist in relative comparisons between institutions, similar to how Master's & PhD groups are categorized; they do not replace official program tuition quotes.

6. Scholarships and financial aid

Scholarships and awards have specific conditions regarding programs, academic years, performance, documentation, and international student status. Check if each award is open to international students or restricted to citizens/permanent residents, and note deadlines and maintenance requirements. Do not consider a scholarship a guarantee until you receive written confirmation from the college.

7. Intakes and admission status

Start dates and application deadlines are published per program, not as a general calendar for all majors. When selecting a Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer term, verify that the program is open for that specific intake, check the campus, supplemental document deadlines, and deposit due dates. Statuses such as open, waitlist, closed, or suspended can change; KeyApply will re-verify before assisting with your application.

8. DLI, study permit, and PGWP

DLI Number: O19395299488. Use the DLI number and campus corresponding to your LOA when preparing your application. Being a public institution with a DLI does not mean all programs are eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

Before enrolling, check if the program qualifies for a PGWP, verify the CIP code and applicable field of study requirements, credential type, study format, and your personal study history. Under current IRCC guidelines, college/polytechnic programs that do not grant a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree generally require a language proficiency of CLB/NCLC 5 in all four skills; program-specific requirements apply to study permit applications submitted on or after November 1, 2024, subject to IRCC conditions and exemptions. Bachelor’s degree programs have separate regulations.

Students must also meet personal conditions such as program duration, full-time enrollment status, PGWP application deadlines, and distance learning regulations. ESL-only programs and programs delivered by private institutions under licensing agreements have different rules. Your LOA, PAL/TAL (if required), and study permit are distinct steps; the college does not issue study permits. Attending the college does not guarantee the issuance of a PGWP, a 3-year permit, employment, or permanent residency.

9. Application process with KeyApply

  1. Submit your degrees, transcripts, language certificates (if available), desired program, intake, and budget.
  2. Compare programs currently accepting international students, entry requirements, campus, fees, and PGWP eligibility based on your profile.
  3. Prepare your application according to the checklist, including translations and supplemental documents; submit via the official admissions channel directed by the college.
  4. Read offer conditions, complete remaining requirements, and pay your deposit by the deadline according to college instructions.
  5. Receive your LOA, complete the PAL/TAL step if applicable, and prepare your study permit application. Immigration consulting is handled by a regulated immigration consultant (RCIC) or attorney.
  6. Cross-reference invoices, register for courses, arrange housing, insurance, and orientation guides before starting your studies.
