1. School Introduction
Red Deer Polytechnic is a public post-secondary educational institution in Alberta, Canada. The institution offers programs for international students and is included on IRCC’s list of Designated Learning Institutions (DLI). A suitable selection approach is to start with the field of study and credential type, then cross-reference entry requirements, campus, duration, and budget.
2. Location and Learning Environment
Location: Red Deer. For institutions with multiple campuses, not all programs are available at every location. Before leasing housing or booking flights, confirm the study location and the mode of delivery—in-person, hybrid, or online—on your letter of acceptance and program page. Prepare a separate budget for housing, food, transportation, insurance, and costs for accompanying family members.
3. Academic Programs
Fields of study available in the institution's catalog include business, technology, engineering, health, arts, community services, and trades. Program types include certificates, diplomas, and degrees. The institution's general catalog and the list available to international students may differ; ensure you select a program currently accepting applications for your intended intake.
Certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and bachelor's degrees have different levels and requirements. A graduate certificate is not a master's degree. If you intend to transfer to a university, check credit transfer agreements, grade requirements, and the actual number of transferable credits. For programs involving co-ops, practicums, or placements, identify whether these are mandatory or optional, and review participation requirements and necessary documentation.
4. Admission Requirements and Application
The institution evaluates applications based on individual program requirements and the educational equivalence of the applicant's home country. Candidates must cross-reference their diplomas, transcripts, prerequisite subjects (such as English, mathematics, or science), and specific requirements listed on the program page. Post-diploma programs may require a relevant associate/bachelor's degree; arts programs may require a portfolio, audition, or interview; and clinical or practicum-based programs may require supplemental documentation.
Prepare your passport, degrees, transcripts, required translations, and institution-accepted language proficiency certificates. Verify minimum overall scores, individual skill band requirements, and certificate validity dates for your specific level of study; a generic IELTS requirement does not apply to all programs. English for Academic Purposes (EAP) pathways and criteria for language proficiency waivers must be confirmed separately. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if a program is competitive or has reached capacity.
5. International Tuition and Budgeting
International Program Cost Estimates for 2026–27: A Business Diploma has a tuition fee of 16,200 CAD for Year 1 and 16,740 CAD for Year 2; mandatory fees of 2,305 CAD and estimated books/supplies of 900 CAD are added annually. Reference levels are based on full-time study; costs may vary based on electives and major. Official fee source.
Separate tuition from ancillary/student fees, insurance, books, equipment, uniforms, lab fees, placement fees, and living expenses. When the fee schedule lists costs per term or credit, multiply accordingly based on your program's total duration. Deposits are usually applied to your tuition account; read the refund policy and deadlines carefully before payment. Tuition tags on KeyApply, when available, serve only for relative comparisons between institutions—similar to "Master's & PhD" group classifications—and do not replace an official program fee quote.
6. Scholarships and Financial Aid
Scholarships and awards have specific criteria regarding the program, academic year, academic performance, application, and international student status. Check whether each award is open to international students or limited to citizens/permanent residents, and review submission deadlines and renewal requirements. Do not consider scholarships as guaranteed funding until you receive written confirmation from the institution.
7. Intakes and Admission Status
Start dates and application deadlines are announced per program, not on a unified calendar. When choosing a Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer intake, verify if the program is offered in that term, confirm the campus, and note deadlines for supporting documents and deposit payments. Admission statuses such as open, waitlist, closed, or suspended can change; KeyApply will verify this before assisting with your application.
8. DLI, Study Permit, and PGWP
DLI Number: O19391056880. Use the DLI number and campus corresponding to your Letter of Acceptance (LOA) when preparing your application. Being a public institution with a DLI number does not guarantee that every program is eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
Before applying, verify the program’s PGWP eligibility, CIP code, field of study requirements (if applicable), credential type, mode of delivery, and the applicant's academic history. Under current IRCC guidance, college/polytechnic programs that do not grant a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree generally require a CLB/NCLC 5 level in all four language skills; field-of-study requirements apply to study permit applications submitted on or after November 1, 2024, subject to IRCC conditions and exemptions. Bachelor’s degree programs have separate regulations.
Students must also satisfy individual conditions such as program duration, full-time student status, PGWP application deadlines, and regulations regarding online studies. English-only programs and programs delivered by private entities under licensing agreements have different regulations. The LOA, PAL/TAL (if required), and the study permit are distinct steps; the institution does not issue study permits. Studying at this institution does not guarantee the issuance of a PGWP, a 3-year permit, job placement, or permanent residency.
