1. Introduction to the Institution

The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) is a public post-secondary educational institution in Alberta, Canada. The school offers programs for international students and is included on the IRCC’s Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list. A suitable selection strategy involves starting with the field of study and type of credential, then cross-referencing admission requirements, campus location, duration, and budget.

2. Location and Learning Environment

Location: Calgary. As the school has multiple locations, not every program is offered at every campus. Before renting accommodation or booking flights, confirm the location and delivery format—in-person, hybrid, or online—as stated on your Letter of Acceptance and the program webpage. Budget separately for housing, food, transportation, insurance, and costs for any accompanying dependents.

3. Academic Programs

Fields of study available in the school’s catalog include business, technology, engineering, energy, health, media, hospitality, and trades. Program types include certificates, diplomas, applied degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and various post-diploma programs. The institution's overall catalog and the list of programs open to international students may differ; ensure you select a program currently accepting applications for your intended intake.

Certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and bachelor’s degrees have different levels and requirements. A graduate certificate is not a master’s degree. If planning to transfer to a university, check credit transfer agreements, grade requirements, and the number of credits actually recognized. For co-op, practicum, or placement components, verify whether they are mandatory or elective, the conditions for participation, and any required documentation.

4. Admission Requirements and Application

The institution evaluates applications based on specific program requirements and the equivalence of qualifications from your home country. Applicants must cross-reference their graduation diplomas, transcripts, and prerequisite subjects (such as English, math, or science) with the specific requirements on the program page. Post-diploma programs may require a relevant diploma/degree; arts programs may require a portfolio, audition, or interview; and hands-on programs may require supplemental applications.

Prepare your passport, diplomas, transcripts, required translations, and school-accepted language certificates. Verify overall scores, individual sub-skill requirements, and certificate validity periods for your specific level of study; a single IELTS score does not apply to all programs. English/EAP pathways and exemption criteria must be confirmed individually. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if a program is competitive or has reached capacity.

5. International Tuition and Budgeting

The 2026–27 international fee table (01/07/2026–30/06/2027) lists Business Administration at 2,040 CAD per 3-credit course, equivalent to 680 CAD per credit. For example, 30 credits would cost 20,400 CAD in tuition; for a 60-credit program, you must total the entire pathway and include mandatory separate fees. This is an illustrative calculation, not a quote for every program. Official fee source.

Separate tuition from ancillary/student fees, insurance, books, equipment, uniforms, lab fees, placement costs, and living expenses. When the table lists prices by term or credit, ensure you multiply by the correct number of terms/credits for your specific pathway. Deposits are generally applied toward tuition; read the refund policy and deadlines carefully before payment. The tuition tags on KeyApply, where available, are for relative comparison between schools—similar to the classification of Master’s & PhD groups—and do not replace the program’s official fee quote.

6. Scholarships and Financial Aid

Scholarships and awards have specific conditions regarding program, academic year, academic performance, application, and international student status. Check each award to see if it is open to international students or restricted to citizens/permanent residents, and review deadlines and maintenance requirements. Do not consider scholarships as guaranteed funding until you have received written confirmation from the school.

7. Intakes and Enrollment Status

Start dates and application deadlines are published per program, not as a general calendar for all majors. When choosing a Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer intake, check if that program offers the corresponding intake, the specific campus, document submission deadlines, and deposit due dates. Statuses such as open, waitlist, closed, or suspended can change; KeyApply will re-verify these before assisting with your application.

8. DLI, Study Permit, and PGWP

DLI Number: O18761749692. You must use the code and campus corresponding to your LOA when preparing your application. Being a public institution with a DLI number does not mean every program is eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

Before enrolling, check if the program is PGWP-eligible, the CIP code, and applicable field of study requirements, credential level, delivery format, and the applicant's academic history. Under current IRCC guidelines, college/polytechnic programs that do not grant bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees typically require a CLB/NCLC level 5 in all four language skills; field of study requirements apply when study permit applications are submitted from 01/11/2024, subject to IRCC conditions and exceptions. Bachelor’s degree programs have their own specific regulations.

Students must also meet individual conditions such as program duration, full-time status, PGWP application timelines, and online study regulations. English-only programs and programs delivered by private institutions under licensing agreements have different regulations. The LOA, PAL/TAL if required, and study permit are separate steps; the school does not decide the issuance of permits. Studying at the institution does not guarantee the issuance of a PGWP, a 3-year duration, employment, or permanent residency.

9. Application Process with KeyApply

  1. Submit your diplomas, transcripts, language certificates (if available), preferred major, intake term, and budget.
  2. Compare programs currently accepting international students, admission requirements, campus, fees, and PGWP eligibility based on your profile.
  3. Prepare your application according to the checklist, including translations and supplemental documents; submit via the official admissions channel as directed by the school.
  4. Read the offer conditions, complete any outstanding requirements, and pay the deposit by the deadline as per school instructions.
  5. Receive your LOA, complete the PAL/TAL step if applicable, and prepare your study permit application. Immigration consulting is handled by a RCIC or attorney.
  6. Verify invoices, register for courses, arrange housing, insurance, and orientation guidance before starting your studies.
