Skilled Nominated visa 190 – Permanent residency via state nomination
A permanent visa for skilled workers nominated by an Australian state or territory. The state selects candidates; Home Affairs assesses and decides on the visa.
Basic requirements
- Under 45 years of age at the time of invitation; hold an occupation on the applicable list and have a suitable skills assessment.
- Meet Competent English requirements, as well as health and character standards.
- Score at least 65 points on the points test; must be able to prove all claimed points when assessed.
65 points is the minimum threshold, not a guarantee of being invited. Points depend on age, English proficiency, education, experience, and other eligibility factors.
Nomination and points calculation
A valid nomination for the 190 visa provides 5 points. For example: 60 points from your personal profile + 5 points for nomination = 65 points. This is only a calculation example and does not mean that a 60-point profile will necessarily be selected by a state.
Individual state requirements
Check the occupation lists, residency requirements, employment, experience, English levels, settlement commitments, and intake periods for the state or territory you intend to apply for. Some states require an ROI or a separate selection process in addition to the SkillSelect EOI.
- Check federal and state requirements.
- Prepare your skills assessment, English test, and EOI.
- Follow the selection/nomination process according to state guidelines.
- Once nominated and invited, lodge your visa application within the specified timeframe; fulfill the commitments made to the state.
