Write the power of attorney notice/contract specifying who will act on your behalf and for what purpose. The power of attorney notice must meet the requirements of authorities in Vietnam. KeyApply and the Embassy of Vietnam in Canada are not responsible for the content.
Authorities in Vietnam that you should consult regarding the power of attorney content:
- The notary office that will verify the transaction (this should be the priority), or
- The entity approving the transaction, such as a bank, social security office, or
- A lawyer in Vietnam - A Canadian Notary Public verifies the signature. KeyApply offers online or in-person signature verification services.
- A photocopy of your Vietnamese passport (if available). If not available, use your Canadian passport or PR card. Note: Persons over 14 years old must sign their own passport; parents may not sign on behalf of children.
- A photocopy of the property documents related to the power of attorney (e.g., house or land deeds, etc.).

Additional regulations and notes regarding power of attorney
Distinguishing procedures: Certification of power of attorney, certification of power of attorney contracts, and consular legalization are not the same procedure. Consular legalization does not automatically confirm the content of a transaction.
Signing method: Depending on the type of document, you may be required to sign in person before a consular officer or sign before a Notary Public in Canada before completing the appropriate verification and legalization steps. Please confirm in advance with the receiving authority in Vietnam.
Documents: Prepare valid identification documents, information of the authorized person, a draft clearly stating the scope and term of the authorization, and proof of assets or related rights if applicable. You may be required to present original documents or provide additional materials upon request.
Asset authorization: For buying, selling, transferring, mortgaging, inheriting real estate, or banking transactions, please check the template and format of the document with the notary office or the relevant handling agency in Vietnam; a power of attorney for signature verification does not automatically replace a notarized power of attorney contract.
Fees and timeline: KeyApply service fees are separate from consular fees and incidental costs. Actual processing time depends on the application and the competent authority.
Refer to the list of consular procedures from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam. Confirm current requirements with the Embassy in Ottawa or the Consulate General in Vancouver before submission.
