1. School Introduction
British Columbia Institute of Technology is a public post-secondary educational institution in British Columbia, Canada. The school offers programs for international students and is listed on the IRCC’s Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list. A suitable approach is to begin by choosing a field of study and credential type, then cross-referencing admission requirements, campus, duration, and budget.
2. Location and Learning Environment
Locations: Burnaby, Vancouver, Richmond, and North Vancouver. As a multi-campus institution, not every program is offered at every campus. Before signing a lease or booking tickets, confirm the location and the delivery format (in-person, hybrid, or online) on your Letter of Acceptance and the program page. Set a separate budget for housing, food, transportation, insurance, and costs for accompanying family members.
3. Academic Programs
Areas to explore in the school’s catalog include engineering and technology, computing, business, health sciences, and trades. Program types include certificates, diplomas, and degree programs by discipline. The school’s general catalog and the catalog available to international students may differ; you must select a program that is currently accepting applications for your intended intake.
Certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and bachelor’s degrees have different levels and requirements. A graduate certificate is not a master's degree. If you wish to pursue university transfer, check credit transfer agreements, grade requirements, and the number of credits actually recognized. For co-op, practicum, or placement, verify whether they are mandatory or elective, participation requirements, and necessary documentation.
4. Admission Requirements and Application
The school evaluates applications on a program-by-program basis, based on the educational equivalence of the applicant's home country. Candidates must verify their diplomas, transcripts, prerequisites (such as English, math, or science), and specific requirements on the program page. Post-diploma programs may require a relevant associate/bachelor's degree; arts programs may require a portfolio, audition, or interview; and practical programs may require additional documentation.
Prepare your passport, degrees, transcripts, required translations, and school-accepted language certificates. Check the minimum overall score, individual skill requirements, and the validity period of the certificate for your specific level of study; a generic IELTS requirement does not apply to all programs. EAP/English pathways and exemption criteria must be verified separately. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission if the program is competitive or already at capacity.
5. International Tuition and Budgeting
The 2026–27 international Tuition Estimator for the Accounting Diploma (6035DIPMA) in Burnaby lists tuition at 12,121.20 CAD per term; two terms total 24,242.40 CAD in tuition. Four terms for the entire program total 48,484.80 CAD in tuition and 50,619.44 CAD in total fees as recorded by the estimator. This is an estimate based on the program; books, supplies, and living expenses must be calculated separately. Official Estimator.
Separate tuition from ancillary/student fees, insurance, books, equipment, uniforms, lab fees, placement fees, and living expenses. When the table lists prices per term or per credit, you must multiply by the correct number of terms/credits in your study plan. Deposits are usually applied toward your tuition account; read the refund policy and deadlines before payment. The tuition tag on KeyApply, if available, only helps with relative comparison between schools, similar to the Master's & PhD classification; it does not replace the official program fee quote.
6. Scholarships and Financial Aid
Scholarships and awards have specific conditions regarding programs, academic year, performance, documentation, and international student status. Check whether each award is open to international students or restricted to citizens/permanent residents, and review submission deadlines and maintenance requirements. Do not consider a scholarship guaranteed until you have received written confirmation from the school.
7. Intake Periods and Admission Status
Start dates and application deadlines are published by program, not on a general calendar for all majors. When choosing a Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer intake, verify if the program offers that specific intake, the campus, document submission deadlines, and the deposit due date. Statuses such as open, waitlist, closed, or suspended may change; KeyApply will re-verify these before assisting with your application.
8. DLI, Study Permit, and PGWP
DLI Number: O19330128542. You must use the DLI number and campus information consistent with your Letter of Acceptance (LOA) when preparing your application. Being a public institution with a DLI does not mean all programs are eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
Before applying, check if the program is PGWP-eligible, the CIP code and field of study requirements (if applicable), the credential type, the study format, and the applicant's study history. Per current IRCC guidelines, college/polytechnic programs that do not grant a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree generally require a CLB/NCLC 5 in all four language skills; field of study requirements apply to study permit applications submitted on or after November 1, 2024, subject to IRCC conditions and exceptions. Bachelor's degree programs have their own regulations.
Students must also meet individual conditions such as program duration, full-time study status, PGWP application deadlines, and online study regulations. English-only programs and programs taught by private institutions under licensing agreements have different rules. The LOA, PAL/TAL (if needed), and the study permit are separate steps; the school does not determine permit issuance. Studying at the institution does not guarantee the issuance of a PGWP, a 3-year term, employment, or permanent residency.
