Success Story | Study Permit – Refused then Approved

From a rejected study permit application to approval

Some applications are difficult not because of a lack of qualifications or finances, but due to a past history of studies and compliance with permit conditions. This is the real-life story of a female client whom KeyApply and our immigration partners supported for about 9 months, from signing the contract to receiving the visa.

From the intention to travel to a study abroad plan

Previously, the client had come to Canada to study academic English and began a program at a college. Later, her studies did not go well, she stopped attending, and returned to Vietnam. Many years later, she came to KeyApply to inquire about a visitor visa, but after evaluating her circumstances and goals, she chose to rebuild her study abroad plan.

Nearly 5 months of preparation, the application is still rejected

The client spent nearly 5 months collecting academic records, personal documents, and her study history. About 3 weeks after submission, the application was rejected because the officer had concerns regarding her compliance with the conditions of her previous study permit.

Finding evidence from many years ago

Instead of just re-submitting the old application, the responsible team reviewed the reasons for rejection and guided the client to search for emails and contact her former educational institution to obtain documents confirming her study duration, changes in her plans, and the circumstances of her return to her home country. Both parties reviewed the documents that needed to be added and prepared an appropriate explanation. The client was clearly informed that the re-submitted application still carried the risk of rejection.

After more than 1 month: re-submitted with additional documents

More than a month after the rejection, the application was re-submitted. During processing, the immigration agency requested updates on several academic documents. KeyApply coordinated with our immigration partners and the school to support the completion of the next steps.

After about 7 weeks: receiving the approval notice

About a month after the re-submission, the client received a request for a medical exam and completed it. Less than 2 weeks later, the application received a passport submission request. A few days later, she received her Canadian visa and prepared for her study journey.

Lessons from the application

A rejection does not mean the door is closed. However, re-submitting must be based on an analysis of the reasons for rejection and appropriate evidence, rather than just sending in the old file again. Every case has unique circumstances, and this outcome does not guarantee similar results for other applications.
