How to Apply

  1. Read the Application Instructions.

  2. Create a profile in the Prince Edward Island Expression of Interest system, providing a valid email address and identifying information including your passport details. Once your account is verified, you can proceed to complete your profile. Applicants can only have one active profile at any given time.

  3. Your profile will remain active for a period of six months. You must ensure the information in your profile is accurate and verifiable. If your situation changes before you are invited to apply, you may update your profile. If your situation changes after you are invited to apply, you must contact the Office with the updated information; this may affect the final decision on your profile. You can find more information about EOI scores in the Application Guide.

  4. If you are invited to apply, you will receive an email notification including your application number and instructions on how to submit your application. If you are invited to apply, you must complete the application forms. Your employer must also complete the employer forms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of frequently asked questions related to the program:

Q: Do I need to pay a fee to participate in the program?

A: No, creating an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile does not require a fee. However, if you are selected to submit a nomination by PEI, there will be a non-refundable fee of CAD 300 to submit your application. We accept cards such as Mastercard, Visa, Mastercard Debit, and Visa Debit. You will be instructed on payment when you submit your application.

Q: Do I need to use an immigration consultant or lawyer?

No, you are not required to hire an immigration consultant for any immigration program to Canada. However, if you decide to use an immigration consultant or lawyer, they must be registered with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Executive Association or be a senior attorney on a provincial bar board. The agent must be registered with the Immigration Service before applying through this stream.

Q: Is there a way to renew my work permit if it's about to expire?

A: You are responsible for ensuring you maintain your legal status in Canada. You should not rely on our Office to renew your work permit.

If you meet the requirements of one of the residency programs, you can apply for a PEI EOI and, if invited, apply for a nomination to the PEI Immigration Office. Once your application is processed and approved, you will receive a Work Permit Support Letter along with your nomination. Be sure to submit your EOI and application in sufficient time to allow this process to complete.

A Letter of Support for a Work Permit allows you to apply for a work permit from the Federal Government without using an LMIA. These letters of support are issued at the discretion of the PEI Immigration Office and are limited to the employer who supported your nomination. Note that IRCC and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) are responsible for issuing work permits.

Q: What will happen after I'm nominated?

A: After you receive your nomination, you will be responsible for submitting your Application for Permanent Residency to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) along with your nomination certificate. IRCC will then evaluate your application against factors of inclusivity. You can check the processing times on the IRCC website.

If there are any changes in your circumstances, such as family status, employment, contact information, etc., you must notify the Immigration Office immediately. You are required to work with an employer until you receive Permanent Resident status. If any changes occur after nomination, you must notify the Immigration Office and IRCC immediately.
